About me and my therapy practice

I know that finding a counsellor or therapist can feel daunting and overwhelming. Whatever your reason for seeking out counselling; whether anxieties are holding you back from aspects of life, if you have experienced loss, bereavement or trauma which you need help processing, or if you are wanting to understand yourself better and the choices you are making, then I hope I can help you move to a place of restoration and understanding.

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist, and have a broad background working with children, young people and adults in clinical and community settings.

I work based on the understanding that our past experiences and relationships impact our present day through our reactions, responses and behaviours. Whether you choose to explore these experiences through talking, art, or play (particularly children), you will find a supportive and compassionate environment, with a therapist who genuinely listens and values your unique story. Together we can navigate the influences in your history, and help you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

I offer flexible options to meet face to face or online, and look forward to meeting with you.

Practice description

I am a Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist. That means that I work based on the understanding that our past experiences and relationships impact our present day through our reactions, responses, feelings, emotions and behaviours.

Sessions are led by the client, and my role as the counsellor is not to direct clients, or give strategies and advice, but to help the person understand themselves better and how elements of themselves are impacting their present day.

Psychodynamic counselling can be done through talking, or by using art, and play (especially with younger children), and clients will have these resources available to them in sessions.

Whether you choose to explore these experiences through talking, art, or play (particularly children), you will find a supportive and compassionate environment, with a therapist who genuinely listens and values your unique story. Together we can navigate the influences in your history, and help you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

My first session

The initial session will be slightly different from subsequent sessions, in as much as the first session is very much about information gathering.

It is important for me, as the counsellor, to understand your expectations of therapy, what you hope to gain from sessions and what has brought you to look for a counsellor or therapist.
