About me and my therapy practice

There are lots of reasons people come to therapy. You might be struggling with anxiety, your confidence or your relationships. You might feel overwhelmed, stuck or disconnected from yourself. Perhaps something has happened that has knocked you off course, or perhaps you’ve been finding things difficult for a long time and have reached a point where you don’t want to keep managing on your own.

Sometimes you know exactly what you want help with. Sometimes you just know that something isn’t right. You don’t need to have it all worked out before you come to therapy.

I’m Jen, an Integrative Psychotherapist based in Wellington, Telford. I work with adults both in person and online.

I see therapy as something we work on together. I’m not there to tell you what to do or give you a list of things to fix. I’m interested in getting to know you and understanding what has brought you to this point, including the experiences and relationships that have shaped you, the ways you’ve learned to cope and the patterns you may find yourself repeating.

I work with anxiety, depression, low mood, low self-worth, shame, relationship difficulties, grief, trauma, loneliness, life changes and feeling stuck. I want therapy to be a place where you can be honest about what is really going on, including the things that might feel difficult, uncomfortable or hard to explain. You don’t need to make things sound better than they are.

If you’re thinking about therapy but aren’t sure whether I’m the right therapist for you, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. It gives us a chance to talk about what has brought you to therapy, ask any questions you have and get a sense of how I work. There’s no pressure to book afterwards. Sometimes having that first conversation is enough to help you decide whether you’d like to take the next step.

Practice description

I offer 50-minute weekly psychotherapy sessions from my private practice in Wellington, Telford, as well as online sessions for adults across the UK.

The therapy room is comfortable, private and a place where we can take time away from the noise of everyday life and focus on you. There is free parking directly outside and the room is on the ground floor with ramp access.

I work with adults 18 + and offer both shorter-term and longer-term therapy. How long we work together depends on what brings you to therapy and what you would like to explore. We can talk about this together rather than deciding everything at the beginning.

My approach is relational, which means the relationship we develop in therapy matters. I’ll listen and give you space, but I’ll also be engaged with you and what is happening between us. Together, we might notice patterns in your relationships, explore why certain situations feel difficult, or begin to understand the ways you have learned to cope.

My training draws on relational, psychodynamic, developmental and attachment-based approaches. I don’t work from a one-size-fits-all model, instead, I draw on different ways of understanding people and relationships depending on what feels useful for you.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within its Ethical Framework. My practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming and anti-oppressive and people from all backgrounds, identities and ways of being are very welcome.

My first session

Before booking a first session, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. This gives us a chance to briefly talk about what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you have and get a sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you. There is no pressure to book afterwards, finding the right therapist is an important part of the process.

The first session is a chance for us to begin getting to know each other and for me to understand what has brought you to therapy. It’s completely normal to feel nervous or unsure about what to say. You don’t need to arrive with everything figured out or have a clear explanation of what is wrong.

We’ll talk about what has been happening for you, what you would like support with and a little about your background, experiences and relationships. This helps me begin to understand you as a person and what might be helpful for our work together.

I’ll also explain how I work, including practical things such as confidentiality, session arrangements and what you can expect from therapy. You’ll have space to ask questions and let me know anything that is important for me to understand.

The first session is not about trying to cover your whole life story or rushing to find answers. It is about beginning to build a relationship, understanding where you are now and thinking together about what you would like therapy to help with.
