About me and my therapy practice

Maybe you’ve been feeling stuck for a while. Perhaps you keep finding yourself in the same situations or relationships, even though you know you want things to be different.

You might be struggling with anxiety, feeling low, dealing with grief or loss, or trying to make sense of something difficult that has happened to you. Perhaps your relationships have become difficult, your confidence has taken a knock, or you’re simply not feeling like yourself.

You might also be the person who usually copes. You’re good at getting on with things, looking after other people and making sense of what’s going on. But underneath that, things might feel much harder than they look from the outside.

Sometimes we can understand something perfectly well and still find ourselves doing the same thing. Knowing why you feel a certain way doesn’t necessarily make the feeling go away.

I’m Jen. I’m an Integrative Psychotherapist , and I work with adults aged 18 and over.

I’m not here to tell you what you should do or give you a list of things to work on. I want to get to know you and understand what life is like for you, including the bits that might be harder to talk about.

We can talk about what’s happening now, as well as things you’ve experienced in the past and the impact they may still be having. This might include difficult or traumatic experiences, grief, relationships, anxiety, self-worth or patterns that seem to keep repeating.

I think therapy works best when you can be yourself. You don’t have to get it right, have everything figured out or make things sound better than they are.

I offer a free 20-minute introductory call if you’d like to talk about what’s bringing you to therapy and get a feel for whether I might be the right person for you.

Practice description

I’m an integrative psychotherapist, which means I draw from different ways of understanding people rather than following one particular model.

My training has a strong focus on relationships, attachment and how our earlier experiences can shape the way we see ourselves and other people. I’m interested in what has happened to you, how you’ve learned to cope, and what is happening in your life now.

For me, the relationship between us matters. I’ll listen, but I won’t just sit quietly and leave you to do all the work. I’ll be curious, honest and involved in what we’re talking about.

Sometimes therapy might involve talking about something that happened years ago. Sometimes it might be much more about what is happening in your life now. We’ll work out what feels useful rather than trying to force things into a particular way of working.

I work with people experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including anxiety, depression, grief and bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, self-worth and shame, loneliness, identity and belonging.

My practice is trauma-informed, LGBTQ+ affirming and anti-oppressive. Everyone is welcome.

My qualifications:

• MSc Integrative Psychotherapy

• Postgraduate Certificate in Psychology

• Certificate in Counselling Skills

• Further training in trauma-informed practice, neurodivergence and developmental theory

• MBACP Registered Member

• UKCP registration in progress

I’m supported by regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development as part of my practice.

I’ve had therapy myself, so I know what it’s like to sit on the other side of the conversation and wonder what you’re supposed to say.

I’m not someone who expects you to arrive with everything neatly worked out. I welcome the messy bits, the bits that don’t make sense, and the times when you’re not quite sure what you’re feeling. I like a bit of humour too, and I think therapy can be a place where you can be a real person rather than having to present a polished version of yourself.

My first session

Before booking a first session, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. This gives us a chance to briefly talk about what has brought you to therapy, answer any questions you have and get a sense of whether I might be the right therapist for you. There’s no pressure to book afterwards. Finding someone you feel comfortable with matters.

If we decide to work together, the first session is mostly about getting to know each other and talking about what has brought you to therapy.

You don’t need to know exactly what you want from therapy, and you certainly don’t need to tell me your whole life story in one go. You might have a very clear idea of what you want help with, or you might just know that things aren’t feeling right and you’re not sure where to start. Both are completely okay.

We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what you’d like some help with and anything you think might be useful for me to know. We can take our time with this rather than trying to cover everything at once.

You might feel nervous, you might not know what to say, or you might even wonder whether your problems are “bad enough” to be there. All of that is okay.

You don’t have to perform being a “good client” or come with everything neatly worked out. We can take some time to work out what matters to you and where it feels useful to begin.

The first session is also a chance for you to get a sense of me and what it’s like to talk to me. You can ask questions, tell me if something doesn’t feel right, and see how you feel about working together.
