About me and my therapy practice

Hello my name is Ellie, I work from a humanistic, relational, and integrative approach, adapting my practice to meet each person’s individual needs, circumstances, and pace. Central to how I work is building a safe, trusting therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, respected, and supported.

My work is trauma-informed and grounded in an understanding of how experiences such as trauma, loss, inequality, and uncertainty can affect emotional wellbeing. I pay close attention to safety, choice, and consent, and we move at a pace that feels manageable for you. Therapy is collaborative, and I aim to support insight, emotional regulation, self-compassion, and meaningful change.

I work with children, young people, and adults, and draw on a holistic understanding of wellbeing informed by my experience in counselling, creative health, and community-based work. Sessions are offered online and in person with flexibility around timing where possible.

Practice description

I draw on humanistic, relational, and integrative frameworks, which means I can adapt my approach to meet your or your child's individual needs. This may include creative exploration, sand tray, parts work, attachment-informed practice, embodied or reflective enquiry. Sessions unfold at your pace, supporting insight, emotional regulation, and deeper self-connection. You do not need to be “creative” to work with me, creative approaches are always optional and used only where they feel supportive.

My practice is trauma-informed, and I have particular experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse, bereavement, neurodiversity, creative blocks, job insecurity, and significant life transitions. I have worked extensively with women and children in women’s refuges, adults within a hospice settings supporting grief and end-of-life experiences, and providing affordable counselling for artists.

I offer an LGBTQIA+ affirmative practice, with a strong commitment to creating a safe, validating space for people of all sexual orientations and gender identities. As a white practitioner, I work with ongoing awareness of race, power, and privilege, and am committed to reflective, anti-racist practice and culturally respectful work.

Alongside my counselling work, I am a creative health practitioner and a horticulturalist and this informs my holistic understanding of how creativity, environment, nature, and relationships can support wellbeing. I work with in healthcare settings consulting and developing wellbeing services within  hospitals. My work is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework, safeguarding principles, and a commitment to ethical, collaborative practice.

My first session

The first stage of therapy is focused on getting started in a way that feels clear, supportive, and manageable. It is an opportunity to explore what has brought you (or your child) to therapy, discuss hopes for the work, and make sure the practical and relational foundations are in place.

Adults

A free 20-minute phone or video consultation is available before starting therapy. This offers space to ask questions, share what you are looking for, and decide whether proceeding feels right for you.

Before the first full session, a brief prior assessment form will be sent to complete. The first full session functions as an assessment session, where the information from the form is explored together alongside discussion of current circumstances, confidentiality, boundaries, and any immediate needs or concerns. There is no expectation to share everything at once, and the pace is guided by what feels comfortable for you.

Children and Young People

When therapy is for a child or young person, a free 20-minute phone or video consultation is offered with a parent or carer before sessions begin. A prior assessment form is also shared with the parent or carer and discussed in the first meeting.

Early sessions focus on helping the young person feel comfortable and settled. This may include art-making, games, creative activities, or gentle play-based approaches alongside conversation, depending on age and preference. Assessment is ongoing and held within the therapeutic relationship, with clear communication around confidentiality and boundaries.
