About me and my therapy practice
Relationships are a fundamental part of good mental health. I offer practical, emotionally focused, relationship therapy to both couples and individuals. My aim is to support people in building relationships that feel stronger, more connected and fulfilling.
RELATIONSHIP THERAPY
Most relationships encounter difficulties at some point. You may be feeling frustrated in your intimate relationships, in friendships, or family interactions. Within intimate relationships these difficulties are often expressed as recurring conflict, distance, loss of trust, or feeling stuck in patterns that cause pain or frustration. These challenges are common and understandable. Through relationship therapy they can be explored with care and clarity, making it possible to reduce conflict, strengthen communication, and rebuild trust and intimacy.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
You may be recovering from the end of a relationship and wanting a space to reflect on, make sense of, heal, and grow from the experience. You may have encountered repeated difficulties in maintaining relationships and want to understand these patterns and break cycles such as self-sabotage and co-dependency. Individual therapy offers an open forum to explore and understand your relational patterns and engrained behaviours, enabling you to move on and create more fulfilling and secure relationships.
COMMUNICATION AND CHANGE
My approach focuses on improving communication, increasing understanding, and raising awareness of ingrained patterns of interaction. You may come to therapy wanting to restore emotional and physical closeness, or to work towards an amicable ending. Good communication is essential for both of these outcomes. My aim is to help people find what is right for them though talking more openly, listening more effectively, and responding to one another in ways that feel respectful and constructive.
Practice description
As a qualified psychologist I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to my practice. I trained and worked with Relate and The Relationship Service and offer psychotherapy and counselling to couples and individuals covering a wide range of issues including communication issues, communication styles, arguments, conflict, silence, attachment, sexual difficulties, kink, sexuality, loss of intimacy, attachment injuries, depression, addiction, affairs, betrayals, infidelity, trust issues, trauma, family discord, work-related stress, parenting stress, the impact of neurodiversity on relationships, amicable endings, divorce, co-parenting, life transitions (starting a family / children leaving home / retirement). I also work with couples who are separating, offering support around negotiating this transition thoughtfully and constructively to optimise recovery and future happiness. For those with children I offer information around supporting children though their parents’ separation and creating cooperative co-parenting arrangements to build families that are reorganised, not destroyed. I work with individuals who are recovering from a relationship or wanting to change negative patterns of behaviour so that they can build stronger, more fulfilling relationships.
CALM AND SUPPORTIVE
Across all my work the focus remains on the client and their needs. I offer a calm, non-judgemental, and collaborative space where people feel heard and supported, and where meaningful change can develop at a pace that feels realistic and sustainable. I have been a listening volunteer with the Samaritans since 2022. My background ensures that you receive the highest standard of care in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment.
My first session
I offer a free initial telephone consultation to discuss your needs, what you would like to work on, and whether relationship therapy would be appropriate for you at this stage. This conversation also provides an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the therapeutic process and how I work. It typically lasts around 20 minutes and is intended to help us decide whether working together would be a good fit.
If we decide to proceed, I will send you my terms and conditions, general information about therapy, and a short questionnaire to complete prior to the first session.
Each session lasts 50 minutes. Sessions are weekly, at the same time each week. After a number of sessions, clients may choose to have bi-weekly sessions or move to sessions on an ad hoc basis by mutual agreement.
When working with couples, I begin with an initial joint session, followed by an individual session with each partner, after which joint sessions resume. This allows space to understand each person’s perspective and to clarify what each individual would like to achieve through therapy. I work in person and online and welcome individuals and couples of all sexualities in traditional or non-traditional relationships.
I have an up-to-date DBS certificate.
