Planned Out of Office & Holidays

In psychodynamic work, the "breaks" in our schedule are important milestones. I provide as much notice as possible for planned absences to ensure our work remains contained.

Upcoming Break: I will be away from 22/12/2025 to 04/01/2026

Public Holidays: I do not typically offer sessions on UK Bank Holidays.

Next Steps

If you see a time that might work for you, the best way to start is with a brief, no-obligation telephone consultation. This allows us to see if we feel like a good "fit" before committing to a first session.

About me and my therapy practice

My name is Thomas Elliott, and I am a psychodynamic counsellor based in Glasgow. I believe that many of the challenges we face in the present—whether that is a sense of being "stuck," recurring relationship issues, or overwhelming anxiety—often have roots in our earlier life experiences and the patterns we developed to survive them.

In my practice, I provide a calm, confidential, and non-judgmental space where we can look beneath the surface of these issues together. My goal is to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, which in turn allows for more freedom and choice in how you live your life today.

I have experience working with a wide range of people, including those in high-pressure roles such as the emergency services and police force. I understand how the demands of a career can sometimes clash with our internal well-being, leading to burnout, stress, or a sense of loss. Whether you are dealing with a recent crisis or a long-standing feeling of "not being yourself," I am here to listen.

Practice description

My practice is located in a quiet, professional suite at Technology House, G3 7PR in Glasgow’s West End. I have carefully chosen this space to provide a sense of calm and containment, away from the noise of the city.

I work from a psychodynamic perspective, which means I am interested in the "why" behind your current feelings. My practice is built on the foundation of consistency and confidentiality—we meet at the same time and in the same space each week. This regularity is not just logistical; it is a vital part of the therapy that allows us to build a deep, trusting relationship where you can feel safe enough to explore difficult or buried emotions.

While I have a broad range of experience, I have a particular interest in working with individuals in high-pressure, high-stress occupations, such as the police force and emergency services. I understand the unique culture of these roles and the toll they can take on your identity and mental health.

Note on my practice: I work strictly on an individual, one-to-one basis. I do not offer couples therapy or family mediation.

My first session

The prospect of a first session can feel daunting, especially if you are already feeling "heavy" or overwhelmed. My goal for our initial meeting is to make it as comfortable and clear as possible.

This first session is an exploratory meeting. It is a space for you to tell me, in your own words, what has brought you to therapy at this time. I will likely ask some questions to get a broader picture of your life, but there is no pressure to "perform" or have all the answers.

During this 50-minute session, we will look at:

What is currently causing you distress or making you feel "stuck."

A brief overview of your history and the significant relationships in your life.

Whether the psychodynamic approach feels right for you.

Most importantly, this session is for us to see if we are a good "fit." I believe the relationship between the client and the counsellor is the most important factor in successful therapy. At the end of the session, we can decide together if you would like to proceed with weekly work. If I feel that a different type of support would be more beneficial for you, I will be honest about that and try to point you in the right direction.
