About me and my therapy practice
Perhaps life looks fine from the outside, but something doesn't feel quite right inside.
I offer a space to slow down, explore what is happening and make sense of experiences that can sometimes be difficult to put into words.
I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor working relationally and person-centredly with adults. I believe that the relationship we build in therapy is an important part of the work, and I aim to offer a space that feels accepting, thoughtful and free from judgement.
I work with people experiencing periods of change, uncertainty or emotional difficulty, including questions around identity, relationships, career and life transitions, motherhood and caregiving, burnout, anxiety and grief. I also have a particular interest in working with neurodivergent adults.
My approach is grounded in person-centred therapy, with influences from Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. Rather than seeing therapy as something where I provide answers or try to fix you, I work collaboratively with you to become curious about your experience and explore what might feel more true or meaningful for you.
My own professional journey has included 23 years in investment banking and financial services, followed by a career break centred around motherhood and a five-year, part-time transition into counselling. This has contributed to my particular interest in the ways our sense of identity can change as we move through different stages of life.
I offer in-person counselling in Oxfordshire and online counselling.
Practice description
I see therapy as a space where you don't have to have everything worked out before you arrive.
We might spend time understanding what has brought you to therapy, noticing patterns in your relationships or exploring feelings that have become difficult to ignore. Sometimes there may be a clear issue you want to work on; at other times you may simply know that something isn't feeling right.
I won't tell you what you should do or assume that I know what is best for you. Instead, we can explore your experience together, at a pace that feels manageable, and develop a deeper understanding of what is happening for you.
My work is person-centred and relational, with influences from Gestalt and Transactional Analysis. I pay attention not only to what you tell me, but also to what emerges between us, while keeping your experience at the centre of our work.
I aim to offer a space where you can be yourself without needing to perform, explain everything perfectly or have the answers.
My first session
The first session is an opportunity for us to meet and begin to understand what has brought you to counselling and what you might be hoping for from therapy.
There is no expectation that you arrive with a clear agenda or know exactly what you need. We can talk about what is happening for you, what you would like to explore and any questions you have about how I work.
It is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of whether you feel comfortable working with me. The therapeutic relationship matters, so finding someone who feels like the right fit is important.
