About me and my therapy practice
My name is Barry (he/him). I’m a person-centred counsellor offering a gentle, grounded space where you can be heard, understood and supported without judgement. My approach is warm, reflective and collaborative – an invitation to explore whatever feels important in your life right now, at a pace that feels safe for you.
I work with adults who are navigating anxiety, depression, past or recent trauma, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, life transitions, bereavement, work-related stress and questions around identity, creativity and purpose. I welcome both short-term and longer-term work, depending on what you need.
Alongside talking therapy, I can offer arts-based approaches when helpful – simple, optional creative methods that support expression and insight when words can feel too limited. You don’t need any artistic experience to work this way; it’s always client-led.
I offer sessions in person in Wolverhampton (WV6) and online across the UK.
Practice description
At the heart of my work is the belief that meaningful change becomes possible when you feel truly met, heard and accepted. In person-centred therapy, you are not there to be "fixed", you don’t have to perform, justify yourself or “have it all together”. You can bring the parts of yourself that feel lost, uncertain or weighed down – and we can explore them together with compassion and curiosity.
My practice is trauma-informed, shaped by an understanding of how past experiences can influence how we feel and relate in the present. I aim to offer a steady, responsive therapeutic relationship that supports safety, connection and your own capacity for growth.
I also bring a background in neuroscience and over 15 years as a documentary filmmaker. This history supports the way I listen to stories, hold complexity and make sense of how our minds and emotions respond to the world around us – while staying firmly grounded in the relational, human core of person-centred counselling.
My first session
Our first session is a gentle opportunity for us to get to know one another. I’ll invite you to share what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping for, and anything that feels important for me to understand. I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and help you decide whether the way I offer therapy feels like a good fit for you.
There’s no pressure to commit – it’s a space of curiosity, clarity and choice.
