About me and my therapy practice
I offer individual psychodynamic counselling, providing a calm and confidential space where you can think about your experiences in a reflective and unhurried way. My approach focuses on helping you explore what may lie beneath present-day difficulties, with attention to the emotional patterns and relational themes that can shape how you feel and respond.
You do not need to arrive with a fixed goal or a clear explanation of what’s troubling you. Many individuals come to therapy with a sense that something is not sitting right, or that familiar patterns keep resurfacing. Together, we take time to explore these experiences with curiosity and care, at a pace that feels manageable and respectful.
A central part of my work involves paying attention to how past relationships and earlier experiences may continue to influence your current emotional life. The therapeutic relationship itself can become a valuable place to notice these patterns safely and thoughtfully, allowing deeper understanding to emerge over time.
My practice is grounded in the BACP Ethical Framework, with a commitment to confidentiality, sensitivity, and professional integrity. My aim is to offer a therapeutic environment where you feel supported, understood, and able to reflect in ways that may not be possible elsewhere.

Practice description
My counselling practice offers a steady, reliable space where you can talk freely and begin to understand what feels difficult in your life. Sessions last 50 minutes and are held weekly, supporting continuity and depth in the therapeutic work. I offer a flexible approach to scheduling when needed, recognising that individual circumstances, work patterns, or caring responsibilities can make fixed times challenging to maintain.
Counselling is available both in person and online. In-person sessions provide a quiet, private setting away from day-to-day demands. Online sessions are held via a secure platform, and it can be helpful to find a quiet, uninterrupted space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. Both formats offer opportunities for reflective work, depending on what feels most suitable for you.
In sessions, we take time to think together about your experiences, emotions, and relationships, without pressure to move faster than feels right. You will not be expected to have the “right” words or to present issues neatly; the work develops gradually, shaped by your pace and what feels possible to explore.
My practice is guided by the BACP Ethical Framework, which sets the foundation for confidentiality, professional boundaries, and a respectful therapeutic relationship. Again, you can find further details about how I work on my personal website at therapywithalexis.uk.
My first session
I offer a free 30-minute telephone assessment before beginning any ongoing counselling. This initial conversation gives us time to think together about what brings you to therapy, what you may be hoping for, and whether psychodynamic counselling feels like the right approach for you at this stage in your life.
There is no pressure to commit. The purpose of this first meeting is to give you a sense of how I work and to see whether the way we think together feels comfortable and containing. You do not need to prepare anything in advance or arrive with a clear story to tell; the conversation can begin wherever feels possible for you.
During the assessment, you are welcome to ask any questions about the therapeutic process, my approach, or practical details such as session format, flexibility around timings, and confidentiality. I will also explain the key aspects of the BACP Ethical Framework that guide my practice, including how confidentiality is managed, so that you can make an informed decision about whether you would like to proceed.
If we decide to work together, we will then arrange a regular weekly session time — with some flexibility where needed — and begin our therapeutic work at a pace that feels manageable and respectful of your circumstances.
