About me and my therapy practice

Therapy can help in many ways. You might be dealing with depression, anxiety suspected neurodiversity or difference, a loss past or present or a traumatic event, the start or end of a relationship, life transitions such as parenthood or involuntary childlessness, the decision to be child free, creativity or identity struggles or a general sense that something isn’t quite right.

I offer psychodynamic psychotherapy in person in the heart of Shoreditch and online. I have several years’ experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS and work privately for once or twice weekly sessions. I work in a way that is inclusive, responsive and adaptable and with a wide range of difficulties, always recognising that psychosocial contexts intersects with our internal struggles.

I understand the therapist’s presence and capacity to think with you about whatever you bring, however painful or confusing, can foster insight, open up wider possibilities and increase our sense of choice.

My practice is trauma informed and neuroaffirming, informed by attachment theory, and I recognise the impact of socio-political events on us all.

My practice is in Bloomsbury, Central London, not far from Holborn and Tottenham Court Road underground stations. I also offer online sessions, please get in touch to enquire.

About me and my therapy practice

I offer psychotherapy once or twice weekly and I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues in a way that is responsive and adaptable.

I believe, and have experienced through many years of psychotherapy and training, that the therapist’s ability to be present and think with you whatever you bring, however troubling, confusing or painful, can facilitate insight and help to make sense of things, which can broaden possibilities.

In terms of what happens in a session, I encourage my clients to say whatever comes into their mind, which sounds simple, but for most of us really isn’t. If or when that’s difficult, we can perhaps think together about why, and what gets in the way.

I work with adults throughout the lifespan and I'm familiar with thinking about and working with issues that can arise at different ages and stages, considering attachment theory in my thinking. I am also keenly aware of climate anxiety and the global sociopolitical impact of climate change. My practice is trauma-informed and neuroaffirming, rather than viewing conditions, or suspected conditions, through a deficit lens.

I understand how important it is to find the right ‘fit’ and if that isn’t me, I may be able to refer you to a colleague or service if you think that may be helpful.

I trained at The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust and have an MSc in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from Birkbeck, University of London, both are BPC and BACP accredited trainings. I have several years’ experience as a psychotherapist in the NHS, working with people from a broad range of backgrounds, and recognise the impact and importance of psychosocial factors.

Practice description

I take a balanced approach between empathetic understanding and thoughtful challenge. I work with adults of all ages, from young adults through the lifespan into older adulthood, and I am familiar a breadth of issues that can arise at different ages and stages. I am also keenly aware of climate anxiety and its global sociopolitical impact.

Specialisms:

Although I work with people with broad ranging difficulties in away that is adaptable and responsive, I have particular experience in working with parents, and parents of children with (or with suspected) neurodevelopmental conditions.

I have particular experience working with individuals during the transition to parenthood, the impact of parenthood or the choice or circumstances of not being a parent, on identity and experience.

I also have experience working with people and especially young people experiencing climate anxiety.

Practice description

I hope to offer allyship in all areas of difference and create an inclusive space where we can think about this together. I believe you are in the best position to know what is right or true for you and aim to think with you at a pace, and in a way that feels right, keeping dialogue open in the process. I may reflect, notice patterns, or gently challenge you, and I always welcome your feedback on that in the moment or later on - we don’t always know how we feel about things straight away.

My first session

I offer a free phone call up to 15 minutes to get a sense of each other and where you can ask any questions you may have. If you think we may be a good fit we can arrange a preliminary session where I gather background information and clarify why you are seeking therapy.

I mainly work in an open-ended way but it is up to you how long you wish to have therapy. In some cases we can agree in advance a short period of between 6-12 weeks if that is your preference.
