About me and my therapy practice

You may have found your way here as someone who others rely on. The one who holds everything together in work, family or relationships. Yet deep down, you may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or a sense that you can't get anything right, no matter how hard you try.

You might be noticing yourself overthinking or doubting your decisions. Perhaps a constant worry that never seems to switch off? Whether that's related to how you see yourself, stress at work, in relationships or anxiety. You may also not have the words right now to explain how you feel, you just know that you don't feel like yourself.

It can feel daunting to begin counselling and there may be worries around this for you. If you have any questions or would like to explore whether counselling with me feels like it might be the next step for you, you're welcome to get in touch or visit my website for further information.

What Counselling with me looks like:

  • Counselling with me is about you. I won't try to fix anything and will sit with you to really try and listen to understand your world and your experiences.
  • I offer a judgement free space that's yours. Where you can talk openly and at your own pace, and it'll be met with understanding and acceptance.
  • My role isn't to offer advice or direction, but to sit alongside you each step of the way, as you explore what's been happening and what might be holding you back, to help you reconnect with you again.

How Counselling can support:

What you're hoping for from counselling, will be personal and unique to you. However, some of the benefits along the way can be:

  • Connecting more to your own voice and sense of self
  • Feeling less overwhelmed and more able to manage day-to-day challenges in life
  • Developing a more accepting relationship with yourself
  • Understanding personal patterns that may be holding you back, how they show up and what you might want to change.

Practice description

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years in a corporate career where I appeared fine on the outside to others, but felt anxious, self-critical, burnt out and disconnected on the inside. I can therefore, appreciate and understand how exhausting and lonely this can feel.

I come to this work as someone who hears how hard it can be to ask for support and who believes deeply in the impact of being truly heard, listened to and accepted.

My qualifications & experience include:

  • CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling

I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (MBACP). My training is in Person-Centred therapy, which focuses upon building a trusting relationship to offer a calm, respectful and supportive space for you to explore whatever you're carrying at whatever pace and direction you'd like to take.

I am deeply committed to my ongoing learning and development beyond my current qualifications. I regularly engage in continuing professional development, reflective supervision and additional training to keep my practice informed, ethical and responsive to individuals I support.

I currently see individuals in both private practice and through volunteering with a local charity, where I’ve supported people with a range of life’s challenges and emotional experiences. My ongoing experience continues to remind me of the courage it takes to begin counselling and the real impact that counselling can bring.

My first session

Before starting counselling:

  • I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. This isn't a counselling session, just an initial conversation together, to give space for you to ask any questions you may have, and understand whether I'm the right counsellor for you.
  • There is no obligation to continue into counselling together afterwards. The most important thing is that you find a counsellor who you feel is going to be supportive for you.

What to expect in a first counselling session together:

  • In a first counselling session, whether in-person or online, we would talk together to understand what has brought you to counselling and what you are hoping to get from counselling overall.
  • We'd also discuss ways of working together including confidentiality, boundaries and any limitations.
  • Ahead of our sessions starting, some of this information will also be sent to you beforehand, in case you'd like to look through if this is something you're more comfortable with before we talk through it together.
