About me and my therapy practice
My name is Bernie and I am a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) with an integrative approach.
I am a member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) as well as Scotland's Counselling and Pychotherapy professional body (COSCA).
I am focused on enabling healing and growth from mental health struggles through talking therapy and consistent focus on your personal goals.
I offer a safe and supportive non-judgemental space for your mental well-being. Online and In-Person sessions are available.
Therapy is tailored to your needs. Together we will navigate through your challenges and learn strategic skills to achieve emotional resilience and create the lasting positive change you seek.
Book now for a free 15 minute consultation where you can get your questions answered and find out if we are a good fit.
Practice description
My practice offers clients a safe and non-judgemental space to explore. You will find me engaging and dedicated to helping you meet your therapeutic goal.
There will be homework throughout as the therapy session will be where you and I will learn more about your daily challenges and learn new tools and techniques.
There will be a requirement for you to carry out some work on yourself in-between sessions using the tools and techniques you learned in-session.
You can expect to have dynamic and productive sessions where you will learn techniques and tools to notice what is going on for you (de-mystify the jumble of negative emotions, unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and reactions to events).
With greater self-insight, you will become aware of patterns and links between how you feel, think and behave in certain circumstances and understand where they derive from and how they have served you until now.
You will become empowered to make helpful decisions that serve you better.
Later on, you will put this new way of working into practice with behavioural experiments in the 'controlled' environment of the therapy session.
My first session
Initial enquiry for all clients would involve an approx. 15 minute telephone conversation so that we can see if we are a good fit and an opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
In the first therapy session, we will go through the Cient-Therapist contract. You will be asked to complete an assessment and we will consider the details of what brought you to therapy and what your therapy goal is.
Clients should leave the first session with an agreement of how Therapy will proceed. They can expect to be educated about CBT and the counselling process and how it will be tailored to their specific needs (perhaps using other modalities where required) and also the rough estimate of how many sessions will be suggested for their treatment plan.
Therapy is client-led and feedback is sought at each session and you are encouraged to be open and honest about the process. After all, it is your therapy.
