About me and my therapy practice

My name is Ed and I am integrative counsellor/therapist working in the Richmond area. I have experience working with adults across a range of issues including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, low self-esteem, bereavement and redundancy.

It is sometimes possible to make changes in our life that help us be happier and more fulfilled. Even if we are cannot change certain circumstances that we find difficult, we can still develop new ways of understanding ourselves, our feelings, and how we respond to those circumstances. A season of counselling/therapy can create the space for that to happen, where through talking with a counsellor/therapist we gain more understanding of ourselves and our relationships, enabling us to make those changes.

My work with clients is informed by different counselling theories and ideas, and I will always try to find the way of working that works best for you as my client. I aim to establish a welcoming, safe and confidential space where we can explore what you have brought to therapy, empowering you to develop a more positive future.

Practice description

I offer a free 30 minute initial call (by phone) for anyone wishing to ask questions and find out more about how we might work together, before committing to a full session.

Following this, I offer 50-minute online sessions on zoom on Monday, Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

• Our therapy sessions will be approximately 50 minutes long. 

• Ideally, I encourage clients to have sessions at the same time, on the same day work. This works well as it ensures consistency which is key in therapy.

• Sessions take place on zoom, as this allows for a therapeutic relationship to develop effectively, and enables easier access for my clients than a face-to-face session at a specific venue.

• I recommend ideally that you commit to a minimum of 6 sessions, but we can either agree a specific number of sessions upfront (which is, of course, open to renegotiation) or work in an open-ended way.

• In our initial sessions, I will ask about your goals from therapy and how you’d like us to work together (I’ll have questions to prompt your thinking on this, especially if you’re new to therapy ). I’ll check in with you about our progress regularly, to ensure you’re getting what you need from the therapy.

My first session

During our first 50-minute session I will go through with you a series of questions as part of an assessment, so we can then decide whether or not you we wish to continue. Consequently, I suggest that we meet on that first session with no expectation of commitment, to allow us to make this decision as easily as possible.
