About me and my therapy practice
I support adults in a nonjudgemental and creative environment, both in person in London (Central London - Soho) or online via zoom. I believe therapy can be for everyone. Therapy can help us find a different perspective on life's challenges, whether we are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, abuse, a period of transition, or feeling unfulfilled or stuck. My approach is integrative, soulful, and relational. What this means is that I work intuitively using different approaches based on what you bring and what feels right for you. I believe that therapy is about 'healing in relationship', so it is important first and foremost for us to build a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship.
It is this relationship which creates the conditions for your story and any healing to unfold. I firmly believe we are all equipped with everything we need in order to help ourselves. Therapy simply helps us get in touch with our own resources. I come with a scientific and creative background, having trained in many different contexts and countries.
Please do get in touch if you have been thinking about therapy. I offer short-term weekly sessions or longer-term weekly open-ended sessions, depending on what you might need. My practice is anti-oppressive and inclusive. I have a particular interest in working with diverse immigrant and cross-cultural experiences.
Practice description
I am a BACP registered counsellor and my practice is trauma-informed.
I have many years of experience in working with bereaved clients. Grief, loss, and sorrow can be raw, wild, and relentless, but there is much richness to be found on the other side.
Alongside my therapeutic practice, I have a background in theatre, movement, performance, and writing. I believe creativity can open the door to potentially transformative experiences. In my work with clients, I often use stories, dreams, movement, images, metaphor, visualisations, somatic exercises, and role play, to tap into what may otherwise be difficult to express through simply talking.
I also value a research-based and scientific approach. As an alumnus of King's College London, where I completed my MSc in the Psychology and Neuroscience of Mental Health, I continue to pursue my research interests in the field of mental health, specifically in the areas of trauma, creative arts/drama-based therapy, dementia, grief, and pre/post-natal maternal mental health.
I strictly adhere to the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) code of ethics and receive regular confidential clinical supervision.

My first session
Although we may begin with a certain issue, our sessions may tend to address more than what is on the surface. I would collaborate with you to create a plan for what you want to work on together, and usually you can expect to notice a difference (or not) within 6 sessions. We would work gently to untangle threads and let your story unfold, while remaining in connection with one another.
I offer a free 15-minute initial chat via zoom where we can explore whether we might be a good fit for each other. Get in touch with me: ulrika@therapywithulrika.com
