About me and my therapy practice
At Sam Golden Counselling, I offer a safe, calm and non-judgemental space where you can come exactly as you are. Life can feel overwhelming, confusing or heavy at times, and reaching out for support is often a big step. Whatever has brought you here, you are welcome. My role is not to fix you or tell you what to do, but to walk alongside you as you explore what is going on for you, at a pace that feels right.
I am a qualified person-centred counsellor, working with individuals aged 15 and over. Person-centred therapy is based on the belief that you are the expert in your own life. You already hold the answers within you, even if they feel unclear right now. Therapy is about creating the right conditions for you to reconnect with yourself, your feelings and your own understanding, without pressure or judgement.
The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work. I offer empathy, warmth, honesty and acceptance, creating a space where you do not need to perform, explain yourself perfectly or hold everything together. You can talk, cry, sit quietly, laugh or take your time, there is no “right” way to be in therapy. Feeling truly heard and understood can be deeply healing.
I work by walking alongside you rather than leading or directing. I am not there to give advice or push you towards a particular outcome, but to support you in exploring your experiences, emotions and relationships in your own way. Therapy moves at your pace, with your needs at the centre.
I work professionally within a clear ethical framework and engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development. I am human, approachable and grounded, and I aim to offer a space where you feel safe, supported and respected. Practice description
What you can expect from me is a safe, non-judgemental space where you are free to be yourself. I offer counselling face to face, online or over the phone, allowing you to choose the option that feels most comfortable for you.
I work from a private therapy room designed to feel calm, peaceful and welcoming, a space where you can take a breath and focus on yourself. There is no set number of sessions; therapy is led by you. Some people choose weekly sessions, while others prefer fortnightly or monthly appointments. We can review this together as your needs change.
I offer a free 20-minute introductory chat, giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have and to see whether working together feels right for you.
Sessions last 50 minutes and are priced at £50 per session. I also offer student discounts for those currently in education.
My aim is to offer flexible, accessible support in a way that feels right for you.
My first session
Our first session will be led at your pace. Before we meet, I will send you a brief assessment form and a contract for you to look through in your own time, with no pressure to complete anything immediately. This helps our first session feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible, allowing us to focus on you rather than paperwork.
There is no expectation to share anything before you are ready, and you are welcome to ask me any questions at any time. My aim is to make the process clear, supportive and easy to navigate from the very beginning.
