Availability
I currently have spaces available for new clients.
I see clients Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm. Sessions last 50 minutes and take place weekly.
I work from a quiet, private room in Edinburgh's New Town (EH3), and I also offer online sessions via a secure video platform for clients across Scotland and the wider UK.
If you'd like to explore whether we might be a good fit, I offer a free 20-minute video consultation — no obligation, simply a chance to talk and ask any questions before deciding.
I aim to respond to enquiries within one working day. You can contact me through this profile or at tomwellstherapy.co.uk.
About me and my therapy practice
I'm a psychotherapist in Edinburgh working with adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, or the pressures of work and family life. I have a particular interest in working with men navigating these experiences — pressures that can be hard to talk about and easy to push aside.
I also work with clients who are autistic and/or have ADHD, helping them explore what diagnosis means for them and how to live more comfortably with it.
I trained at the University of Edinburgh, completing three years of postgraduate study in counselling and psychotherapy. I am trained in both psychodynamic and person-centred approaches, and I draw on both in my work.
Psychodynamic therapy pays close attention to patterns over time — how earlier relationships and experiences shape how we feel and respond in the present. Person-centred therapy places the client's own expertise about their life at the centre of the work, creating conditions for honest self-exploration.
In practice, this means I listen carefully, notice themes and patterns, and help clients see how behaviour that once made sense may now be keeping them stuck. Understanding these patterns can open up room for different choices.
Prior to training as a therapist, I studied English Literature at the University of Oxford, which continues to shape how I think about the stories we tell ourselves and how they influence the way we live.
Practice description
My practice is based in Edinburgh's New Town; a professional, discreet setting in the West End, well served by tram, bus and train. I also work online, offering the same consistency and confidentiality for clients who prefer remote sessions or who are based elsewhere in Scotland or the UK.
Sessions are 50 minutes, held weekly at the same time. This regularity helps build the kind of trust and continuity that allows deeper work to develop. Some clients come for a few months to work through something specific; others stay longer to explore things more fully. We'll find what suits you.
The work is conversational and collaborative. You'll set the focus. I'll listen closely and help us notice what's important — recurring themes, pressures, the meaning that certain patterns suggest. Sometimes we'll look at earlier experiences; sometimes we'll stay close to what's happening now. The aim isn't to judge or prescribe, but to understand, so that different choices become possible.
I follow the BACP Ethical Framework and maintain regular clinical supervision. I hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
Sessions are £70. I also offer a limited number of reduced-fee spaces — please ask about availability.
My first session
Before we meet, I offer a free 20-minute video consultation. This is a chance for you to ask questions, tell me a little about what's brought you to therapy, and get a sense of whether I might be the right fit. It's confidential and carries no obligation.
If we decide to go ahead, we'll arrange a first 50-minute session — in person at my therapy room or online.
In that first session, you'll have space to share what's on your mind. We'll talk about what you hope might change, and I'll ask a few questions to understand your situation more fully. We won't try to cover everything at once. What matters most is whether the space feels safe and useful for you.
There's no assessment, no questionnaire, and no programme to follow. We'll work at a pace that suits you.
I'm not a doctor and can't diagnose or prescribe medication, but I can help you think through whether a conversation with your GP might be useful alongside our work.
