About me and my therapy practice
You may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious or struggling to make sense of how you're feeling. Perhaps you're going through a difficult time, experiencing problems in your relationships or finding yourself stuck in patterns you don't fully understand. Sometimes you may not know exactly what's troubling you, only that something doesn't feel quite right. Whatever you're going through, you don't have to face it alone.
I'm Rosie, a psychodynamic counsellor working with adults. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel heard and begin to explore your thoughts and feelings.
I'd describe myself as warm, thoughtful and down to earth. I'm naturally curious about people and what makes us who we are. I believe that building a trusting relationship is an important part of counselling, helping you to gradually feel more comfortable being yourself.
Before becoming a counsellor, I spent 30 years working closely with people, building relationships that often lasted for many years. I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and have completed further training in Advanced Clinical Skills in Contemporary Psychodynamic Therapy. These experiences have shaped the way I work today.
In my work, I'm interested in what is happening in your life now, but also what might lie beneath it. Together, we can explore earlier experiences and relationships, and how these may be influencing the way you feel about yourself, relate to others or respond to situations today.
Sometimes the ways we learned to cope earlier in life can leave us feeling stuck as our circumstances change. My role isn't to tell you what to do, but to offer a space where we can think together and begin to make sense of what may be happening for you.
Practice description
People come to counselling for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship difficulties, separation or family problems. Perhaps you're struggling with low self-esteem, navigating changes in your life or finding it difficult to understand your emotions.
I also recognise that our experiences can affect us in different ways. Difficult childhood experiences, trauma, loss or challenging relationships can sometimes have a lasting impact on how we see ourselves and relate to others.
In our sessions, you'll have time to talk about whatever feels important to you. We might explore your relationships, emotions, memories or experiences that have shaped your life. There may be feelings you've carried for a long time or things you've never had the opportunity to talk about before.
Counselling isn't always about finding immediate answers. Sometimes it's about having the time and space to reflect, understand yourself more deeply and begin to see things differently. As our work develops, you may find yourself becoming more aware of your needs, understanding your responses and feeling more able to make choices that are right for you.
I work with adults from different backgrounds and at different stages of life, offering both short-term and open-ended counselling. I have a particular interest in longer-term work, where the therapeutic relationship can develop over time and allow for deeper exploration and understanding.
What matters most is that we begin with what's important to you, allowing the work to develop at a pace that feels right.
My first session
Making that first contact can sometimes feel like the hardest part. I offer a free 15-minute telephone call, giving you an opportunity to tell me a little about what has brought you to counselling, ask any questions and get a sense of whether you feel comfortable talking with me.
If you decide to book a session, we'll have 50 minutes together. This is an opportunity for us to get to know one another, talk about what's happening in your life and begin to explore what you might be hoping for from counselling.
You are welcome to bring whatever feels important to you, however big or small. There's no expectation to know exactly where to begin or to share everything straight away. We can take things at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
Finding the right counsellor is important, and our first meeting gives you the opportunity to decide whether working together feels right. There's no pressure to make a decision about continuing immediately.
I offer both in-person and online counselling, with sessions usually taking place weekly at an agreed time. Having a regular space to meet helps provide consistency and continuity for our work together. We can discuss the practical arrangements before beginning counselling.
If you feel counselling might be helpful, you're very welcome to get in touch. We can begin with a conversation and take things from there.
