About me and my therapy practice

My style is collaborative, compassionate, and conversational. I offer a safe and supportive space where we can explore thoughts and feelings. As an integrative therapist, I draw on different therapeutic models to respond to what you need at different times. My core training is in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which means we will explore how unconscious processes and past experiences may be shaping your present. Depending on your needs, I may also use cognitive–behavioural approaches and psychoeducation to support the understanding and/ changes you wish to make.

Therapy with me is more than simply looking inward. Together, we explore your inner world — your feelings, thoughts, and memories — as well as the relational patterns and life pressures that shape your present. Being from another culture myself, I bring cultural awareness and sensitivity to systemic issues, and I work through an anti-oppressive lens. This means we will also notice how wider systems — such as inequality, discrimination, or social pressures — might be affecting your wellbeing, recognising that sometimes the problem is bigger than any one person. This perspective shapes my clinical focus.

Practice description

I’m Sarah, a BAAT- and HCPC-registered Art Psychotherapist and BACP-registered Counsellor with over nine years’ experience working therapeutically with children and adults, individually and in groups, across Higher Education, the NHS, and the third sector in the UK. My current practice focuses on adults, informed and enriched by my earlier work with children, young people, and families.

My journey into therapy began over 15 years ago, shaped by a deep curiosity about people and relationships. I hold a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a Certificate in the Theory and Practice of Hospital Play, and an MSc in Art Psychotherapy (International).

I offer both art psychotherapy and talking therapy, bringing a creative approach that recognises that sometimes words alone are not enough. You do not need to be “good at art,” and no previous experience is required.

I work with clients from all walks of life and have a particular clinical interest in supporting young adults from multicultural and international backgrounds. This includes Third Culture Kids (TCKs), expats, repats, international students, and individuals in intercultural relationships — particularly those navigating identity, belonging, transition, and the experience of living between worlds.

My first session

Sometimes you just know you need help, but you’re not sure what that might look like. You don’t need to have everything figured out before reaching out — we can take that first step together and explore the next steps. This might be counselling with me, or it might be that another form of support is better suited to your current needs. I’ll use my knowledge and experience to guide you toward the options that feel right for you.

The first session is a chance to get to know each other and talk about what’s brought you here. We’ll explore what you’re hoping for, any previous counselling experience, and what feels most important right now.

We’ll also cover practicalities, including how often and when to meet, whether short-term work (4–6 sessions) or a longer-term approach might be most helpful, and the fee. To promote accessibility and equity, sessions are offered on a sliding scale of £60–£80, depending on your financial circumstances. If you are able to pay the higher end of the fee, please consider it– this will allow me to offer my service to someone at the lower end of the scale and ensure the sustainability of my work.

There’s no obligation to continue — the goal is to help you feel supported, informed, and comfortable with your next steps.
