About me and my therapy practice
I am a Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) therapist providing assessment and treatment for mental health conditions. I seek to bring empathy, understanding and compassion in my work with adults and young people (16+ years). Areas of expertise include therapy for depression, low self-esteem and anxiety disorders.
My approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This evidence-based practice is recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) for the treatment of anxiety and depression. I provide therapy for a range of psychological issues, including depression, low self-esteem, general anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, panic disorder and trauma (PTSD). I seek to adapt therapy to fit an individual's needs. I have a flexible approach to the length of psychotherapy depending on your needs, ranging from 6 to 20 sessions.
In session, I provide a safe space for you to explore and examine the aspects of your life that are troubling you and assist you in defining your therapeutic goals. I will actively support you to examine problematic thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We will collaborate to develop alternative ways for you to manage your life and alleviate your issues. My goal is to help you to build mental resilience by becoming your own therapist.
Practice description
In my practice, therapy focuses on the client's needs and personal goals. We look at the links between the client's thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and physical symptoms to build an understanding of the causes of their problems and the factors that maintain them. Together, we will seek solutions to the problems by challenging unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.
We work as a team, identifying tasks (e.g., keeping a journal or doing behavioural experiments) which the client is willing to complete between therapy sessions. This reinforces new ways of thinking and behaving to accelerate change. Ultimately, I seek to enable the client to build personal awareness and greater mental strength for the future.
My first session
Before our first meeting, I will ask you to complete and return a self-assessment form. We will review the outcome in our first session. We will also discuss the problems you are encountering and your goals for therapy.
