About me and my therapy practice
Hi. I am Rebecca. I am a qualified person-centred counsellor/therapist. Life can be challenging or overwhelming, at times, at any age, and I offer the opportunity to talk through these worries, to be heard, and to feel like someone is walking beside you as you move towards a calmer and more fulfilling future.
I have over 20 years experience working with children in schools, providing support for a variety of needs. As a counsellor, I work mostly with children, teenagers, young adults and parents, providing a safe, confidential space for finding support, exploring difficulties and bringing an opportunity to share the experiences, thoughts or emotions that have brought you/your child to this point.
I know that finding the right counsellor is important and can feel daunting, at first. My focus is on building a relationship which has trust and compassion as priorities. I work at the individual’s pace and my counselling style is adapted depending on each unique person’s needs and goals, often including talking techniques, creative activities or play.
I offer face-to-face counselling in Sidmouth or Honiton (in Devon) or, for adults, sessions can be online.
Practice description
My main approach in sessions is Person-centred but, as an integrative counsellor, I use other approaches where I feel it will be beneficial. These may include, for example, CBT (Cognitive behavioural Therapy), Gestalt techniques, Internal Family Systems (IFS) or Sandplay therapy.
The work is client-led depending on each individual’s needs. I am not here to ‘fix’ but to help every individual to explore their feelings, behaviours and worries in a safe, reflective space and find their own way to a brighter future.
The work is open-ended. It is your decision when to stop attending sessions, although I recommend a ‘closing session’ to bring the counselling relationship to an appropriate ending.
My first session
I offer a short, introductory telephone consultation for free where you can ask questions and get a chance to see if I am the right counsellor for you.
The first session consists of getting to know you and helping you to feel more comfortable about my counselling style.
