About me and my therapy practice
About me
The chances are that if you've landed here, you're not feeling great, are considering your support options, and wondering about dipping your toe into counselling.
Clients who are new to counselling often worry about being 'analysed' or led into areas that they are not ready to explore. This isn't how I work. I'm warm, friendly and accepting and offer somewhere confidential for you to safely discuss and explore whatever is troubling you. I don't use 'psychobabble' or fancy jargon, and will explain any concepts and tools and techniques in plain English. Clients find me down to earth and relatable.
Research shows that the connection you make with your therapist matters more than the kind of therapy you choose. Searching for the right support when you are likely already struggling with anxiety can be overwhelming, especially when there are so many choices to navigate. If you're new to therapy, you'll be hearing person centred, CBT, psychodynamic, integrative and many many more. Visit my website to learn more about these.
Practice description
I work with people who are experiencing a range of difficulties:
Bereavement, grief, childhood bereavement, loss including the death of a pet
Separation and divorce
Depression, anxiety, stress, work related stress
Generalised anxiety disorder
Postnatal depression
Childnessness 'not through choice'
Discrimination, abuse
Low self-esteem
Relationship difficulties - work, friendships, romantic, sibling, parent-child
Please note that my service is not suitable for people struggling with more complex mental health presentations such as psychosis, bipolar and schizophrenia.
'How might counselling help me'? I hear you think.
Here are some of the positive changes that counselling clients notice.
Gaining more self-understanding and self-acceptance, including recognising personal needs and values
Improvements in relationships, such as communicating more openly and/or setting boundaries
Experiencing less distressing feelings such as anxiety, sadness, or anger, and understanding these when they arise
Learning about healthy coping strategies when facing stress or difficult situations
More confidence in making decisions and/or handling everyday challenges
Finding meaningful activities, leading to a stronger sense of purpose
Experiencing shifts in outlook, such as increased hope, motivation, or optimism about the future

My first session
Clients can be highly anxious when first coming into counselling, wondering what to expect and feeling worried 'how will this go?' 'will I like the counsellor'.
I offer a warm welcome and will do my best to help you to feel comfortable and put you at ease.
I'll need to take some notes in our first session and we can talk through what you are hoping to get out of counselling. It might be you don't know any more than to feel better, that's common and absolutely fine. It is up to you what to start, or I can gently help you along if you come in not knowing.
