About me and my therapy practice

My name is Alexandra (Alex) and I’m an integrative humanistic counsellor working online and via telephone.

My journey into counselling began in my own teenage years. Having experienced the profound impact of therapy firsthand, I felt a calling to provide that same safe, supportive space for others. This personal experience shaped my belief in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship, and it remains the foundation of my practice today.

As a fully qualified integrative humanistic counsellor, I am committed to supporting my clients through their personal journeys and have experience working with a range of issues.

I also have years of professional experience working in homeless accommodation supporting adults with various mental health issues.

I work with people aged 18 and upwards.

Practice description

I offer a secure, empathic environment for clients to navigate life’s challenges, whether working online or via telephone.

My practice is entirely client-led; I use my knowledge of humanistic theories and adapt my skills and techniques to suit your specific requirements ensuring you always feel supported at a pace that feels right for you.

My practice is built on genuine curiosity and a commitment to lifelong learning.

Through a humanistic and integrative lens, I view our work together as a collaborative space where I am constantly evolving.

By staying deeply engaged in ongoing professional development and reflective practice, I ensure that I am not only bringing the latest therapeutic insights to our sessions but also showing up with the authenticity and self-awareness necessary to support your unique journey.

To ensure I am providing the highest standard of care, I engage in regular clinical supervision. This means I meet with a senior, experienced professional to discuss my work in a confidential setting. It allows me to gain fresh perspectives, ensure I’m utilizing the best techniques for your specific needs, and confirm that I’m practicing safely and ethically.

I offer a free initial 20 minute phone call before booking a first session, this is so I can introduce myself and give you information about my practice, we can have a discussion about what you are looking for, what I can offer and this gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have before deciding to arrange a first session.

My first session

It is completely natural to feel a little nervous before a first session. I will hold a safe, non-judgmental space for you. The first session is a collaborative process where I'll respect your comfort levels, and ensure that you feel a sense of clarity about how we can work together moving forward.

How we'll spend our time together:

Creating Our Foundation- Contracting and Boundaries: Think of this as us building the foundation for working together. For therapy to be truly effective, we both need to feel secure.

We will talk through:

Confidentiality: This is the cornerstone of our work. I'll explain exactly how your privacy is protected and the very few, specific legal or safety situations where I might be required to break that confidentiality.

Our Agreement: We'll clarify the practical details, such as how we communicate between sessions, rescheduling, payment and how we'll maintain professional boundaries to keep our relationship focused entirely on supporting you.

The Therapeutic Relationship: I don't see you as a person with innate worth and the capacity for growth. My role is to walk alongside you, offering empathy, transparency, and a genuine human connection.

Understanding Your Needs: Once we feel settled, we will shift our focus to you. This part is an invitation for you to share what's on your mind.

Your Experience: I want to hear about what has brought you to counselling and how challenges are currently showing up in your daily life. You can share as much or as little as you feel ready to.

Your Hopes: We will talk about what you're looking for from counselling. Whether you're seeking specific change, looking to better understand a pattern's, or needing a compassionate space to process a difficult season, your goals will help guide the direction of our work together.

A Note on Our Connection

The most important part of our first session is the "fit." You're the expert on your own life, and it is vital that you feel seen, heard, and safe with me.
