About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I'm Jane (she/her). Thanks for looking at my profile. I'm a qualified, integrative therapist working with adults of all ages and young people from the age of 13. I work with kindness and compassion and a strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
I understand that for all of us, life can, for many different reasons, feel overwhelming, confusing and lonely at times. I know how feelings of anxiety can come to dominate day-to-day life including relationships, socialising, self-esteem, self-confidence, well-being, sleep, work and study.
I have worked in education and social care services for over 30 years supporting adults and young people dealing with wide-ranging emotional challenges, different forms of loss and other life changing experiences. I have provided counselling in a Cancer support centre serving the Northwest of England. I also work as a counselling lecturer.
Throughout my career I have worked with adults and young people from wide-ranging backgrounds including those with different types of additional needs and those who have been in Local Authority Care. I also have extensive lived experience of positively supporting trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming adults and young people with their gender identity and their transition journey, be that self-discovery, social or medical. I also understand that trans people have lots of things to discuss other than being trans.
I am also experienced in supporting family members and friends of trans people. I appreciate that the life-changes that their loved one's transition can bring may at times feel difficult to adjust to. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space to explore the range of feelings that might arise.
I provide a safe, inclusive and confidential space for us to work together at your pace to explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings and to identify the changes you want to make in your life. I will welcome you and listen with respect and empathy to whatever you want to talk about.
Practice description
I am an integrative counsellor for adults of all ages and for young people from the age of 13. This means that I have been trained to use a combination of different therapeutic approaches including Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA). I draw on the most appropriate approaches to meet the individual needs of each client.
I provide a safe and supportive space for you to talk about and explore your difficulties, worries and feelings. I will listen carefully to you with respect, empathy, genuineness and a non-judgemental attitude.
We will work together to decide how best to tailor our sessions to meet your individual needs. By listening to you, I will be able to select the most appropriate approaches to help you to talk about your thoughts, emotions and experiences and to work towards achieving the changes and improvements that you want to make in your life.
My clients' safety and the confidentiality of their information is important to me. My private practice is fully insured and compliant with data protection regulations. I hold an enhanced DBS and I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
I have worked with people from the age of 13 - 86. Clients of all ages have told me that they find me easy to talk to about their thoughts, worries and feelings. They have also told me that they have appreciated having someone to talk to outside their family, friendship group and their work or education setting.
Some clients find it helpful to use our sessions just to talk to me about how they’re feeling. Others have found it helpful to use art materials to help them explore and express their thoughts and emotions. This flexibility is something I can offer in my sessions.
My first session
Whether this is the first time you have considered finding a counsellor or you have accessed counselling before, I understand that you may want to find out more about what I offer and how I work.
Before we agree to work together, I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation so that you can ask me any questions to help you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you. Paid counselling sessions will only begin if we both agree to proceed with working together.
Once we have decided to begin working together we will agree a regular day and time to meet. Each counselling session will last for 50-minutes.
If our sessions are going to be in person, I will confirm the full address of my therapy room in Stockport. If our sessions are going to be online I will provide information about the online meeting platform we will use and how to join our online sessions. I will also take some information about you to ensure your safety and well-being.
My face-to-face counselling sessions cost £60 per session and my online counselling sessions cost £50 per session. I will provide more information about payment methods during our initial conversation.
I do understand that financial circumstances can vary, and I am happy to discuss the availability of concessionary rates for clients with a low income. Please feel free to enquire about this during our initial conversation.
I offer both short term and longer term counselling. During our first session, we will agree how we will work together including an initial number of counselling sessions. We will also agree a date to review this to decide together whether to bring our work to a planned end or to further extend our sessions.
Please do get in touch to find out more. I look forward to hearing from you.
