About me and my therapy practice
My name is Jane Johnson (she/her).
I am a warm, kind and compassionate professional and I understand that life can feel overwhelming, confusing and lonely at times. I am passionate about providing a safe and confidential space in which you can explore your experiences, thoughts and feelings with me at a pace that suits you.
Person Centred theory forms the basis of my practice. This means I will listen to you with Empathy, Congruence (genuineness) and Unconditional Positive Regard. I work to provide a space in which you feel safe, respected and supported to find your voice and to be heard, accepted and understood.
I am a fully qualified integrative counsellor for adults of all ages and for young people between the ages of 13 and 18. I am a Registered Member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Being an integrative counsellor means that I am able to draw on a range of different therapeutic approaches including Person Centred Therapy (PCT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Transactional Analysis (TA).
I appreciate that at times, you may need support to express how you feel and to make sense of the struggles and challenges you face in life. As we work together, we will decide how best to tailor our sessions to best meet your individual needs to help you to achieve more clarity, healing and a more fulfilling life.
Practice description
I have worked in education and social care services for over 30 years. In that time I have offered support to adults and young people who have been living their lives whilst trying to deal with wide-ranging emotional challenges and life changing experiences.
Throughout my varied career I have come to appreciate how supportive a listening ear with a trusted person can be. This inspired me to further develop my skills and passion for supporting others by training as a counsellor.
Now I combine my experiences from my work in education and social care with my counselling expertise to help my clients to work through challenges, build resilience, discover inner strength and identify and work towards their personal goals. I provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which each person I work with feels heard and valued.
I have practised therapeutically in a Cancer support centre serving the Northwest of England. I also work as a counselling lecturer. I have extensive lived experience of positively supporting adults and young people with their gender identity and through their transition journey.
My personal and professional experiences have shown me how counselling can help people with the difficulties they are experiencing, regardless of their background, sex, gender, age, sexuality, disability, religion or culture.
My first session
I know that it can be a huge step to decide to talk to a counsellor and that there may be lots of different questions you want to ask. I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation during which you can ask any questions to help you to decide if I am the right person for you to work with.
If during this first conversation we decide to work together, I will also take some information about you to ensure your safety and well-being.
Paid sessions will only begin if we both agree to proceed with working together.
After our free 20-minute telephone conversation, each online counselling session will last for 50-minutes.
My online counselling sessions are priced at £50 per session.
However, I understand that financial circumstances can vary, and I am happy to discuss the availability of concessionary rates for clients with a low income. Please feel free to enquire about this during our initial conversation.
