About me and my therapy practice
As a qualified integrative counsellor, I understand that everyone is different and that we all experience life in our own way. I mainly work from a person-centred, trauma-informed and humanistic approach, which means getting to know you as a person, listening to your story and understanding things from your point of view. I believe having a space where you can talk openly, without feeling judged or having to explain yourself, can make a real difference.
I also draw on other approaches when they feel helpful, such as looking at how past experiences might affect how you feel today, or exploring the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. There isn't a set way we have to work, and you don't need to know what you want to talk about before you come. We can take things as they come, at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
I'm human too, and I understand that life isn't always straightforward. My role isn't to have all the answers, but to listen, understand and work alongside you as we explore whatever has brought you to counselling.
Practice description
My approach has a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship, built on trust, empathy, honesty, acceptance and understanding. I provide a safe, confidential and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without fear of judgement.
Counselling with me may involve exploring past experiences, understanding present difficulties, recognising patterns in relationships, making sense of emotions and developing a greater understanding of yourself. We may also explore self-worth, confidence, boundaries, coping strategies and the changes you would like to make in your life.
I work at your pace, respecting your individual needs and allowing you the space to explore what matters most to you. I will work alongside you, helping you recognise your own strengths, resources and possibilities.
I am here to help you find your own way forward, whether that means making sense of the past, managing what is happening in the present or feeling more hopeful about the future.
You deserve time and space to reconnect with yourself and move towards a life that feels more meaningful to you.
My first session
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting, so I want to make the process as comfortable and reassuring as possible.
I offer a free 20-minute consultation. This gives us an opportunity to have an informal conversation and discuss what has brought you to counselling. You can ask questions, find out a little more about how I work and decide whether you feel comfortable taking things further. There is no pressure or obligation to continue.
This first session will include an assessment, giving us the opportunity to explore your circumstances and what you hope to gain from counselling.
The assessment also allows us to discuss important practical matters, including confidentiality, boundaries, expectations and how we might work together. It is an opportunity for both of us to consider whether we feel we are the right fit for a therapeutic relationship.
I understand that finding the right counsellor is important. You should feel comfortable, listened to and respected. There is no expectation to share everything straight away, and we can take things at a pace that feels manageable for you.
This is your time, your space and your journey. I am here to walk alongside you.
