About me and my therapy practice
I'm not a therapist who only listens and nods through the session. I'm warm, direct and active — and you will know that I am in the room with you. My goal is that you leave every session with something real, not just the vague feeling of being heard.
I'm Mina — an integrative relational counsellor based in Harrogate, working online across the UK.
You may be living with anxiety that won't quiet, a low mood that won't lift, or relationships that keep hitting the same wall. Perhaps a difficult childhood is still shaping how you see yourself and the world.
Whatever it is, I can help you understand and make sense of your experiences. I will meet you wherever you are — and I will work with you toward wherever you want to go.
You set the pace. I make sure we are actually moving.
Sessions with me are different because listening is where we begin — not where we stay.
I'm an active participant in your therapy, not a silent witness to it:
I stay curious about the things you learned to accept as "just how things are". I name the patterns that were normalised, and gently challenge the things you learned to you learned to gloss over — because that's usually where the real work is.
I hold an MSc in Cognitive Neuropsychology and a PGDip in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Prior to private practice I worked in the NHS as a Senior Practitioner delivering CBT based sessions and supervised fellow practitioners. I have published academic research on childhood maltreatment, and autism.
You deserve a therapist who has done the work clinically, academically and personally.
This is therapy where, over time and with your collaboration, the anxiety can quieten, the patterns can shift, and the version of yourself you came here to find can start to emerge.
Practice description
I work integratively — I don't follow a fixed method. I draw on whatever is most appropriate for your needs: psychodynamic thinking when we're tracing patterns that don't make sense on the surface; attachment theory when we're looking at how early relationships shape the ones you're in now; CBT when something practical is what's needed.
More than any technique, the relationship between us is at the centre.
Most of the difficulties people bring to therapy — low self-worth, difficulty trusting, patterns that keep repeating — didn't form in isolation. They formed in relationship: in the way we were spoken to, held, seen or not seen by the people who were supposed to care for us. If that's where the wound formed, a safe, honest and consistent relationship is often where it heals.
Our work may include exploring:
- Fear of abandonment, rejection, or getting too close
- People-pleasing, co-dependency, and difficulty setting boundaries or saying no
- Struggles with trust, intimacy, or emotional connection
- Patterns in relationships, difficult family dynamics and attachment
- The impact of earlier childhood experiences
- Overthinking, anxiety, and emotional overwhelm
- Self-worth, inner criticism, and boundaries
All of my work is trauma-informed. For trauma and PTSD, I'm trained in the specialist Rewind Trauma Technique: a gentle, evidence-based approach that works within 1 to 3 sessions without requiring you to relive or describe what happened in detail.
My first session
Before our first session I offer a free 15-minute consultation call. This is an informal conversation — no assessment, no commitment or obligation — just a chance for us both to get a sense of each other and whether working together feels like the right fit. If it doesn't, I'll do my best to point you toward someone who might suit you better.
