About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm AJ Goodlad (he/they). I’m an experienced intersectional, Neurodivergent, Queer, Trans Non-binary, Humanistic Person-Centred Psychotherapist, Counsellor, and Advanced Practitioner Member of the BACP.
I’ve had the privilege of being in the role of Psychotherapist and Counsellor for the past decade, with extensive experience as a Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) Therapist.
My work is trauma informed, sex positive, gender affirming, neuro-affirming.
I’m warm, soft, open and friendly in my approach. My relationship with you will be genuine, as you process any thoughts, feelings and life's experiences. I will be working for you to feel safe, within an empathic space, for you to explore as you need. I will offer you unconditional acceptance, warmth, and a genuine non-judgmental relationship.
Who is welcomed into my practice? The dolls, transf@gs, gender queers, crips, bois, she/they’s, bears, pups, non-binary finery, isolated village queers, binary trans, gender questioning, swers, later in life neuroqueer discovery and/or coming out, AuDHDers, non-binary dykes, plurals, metas, no gender, poly Tetris players, cis partners, friends, lovers and family seeking understanding as their loved one transitions, to name a few.
I’m curious about power dynamics and how this can impact a person’s experience of themselves, identity and relationships. I'm anti-ableist, fat positive, feminist, HIV/AIDS allied, intersex allied, open relationship, poly/non-monogamy allied, Racial Justice allied, refugee and migrant allied, sex worker allied, Kink/BDSM allied. My rich background is in advocacy within disabled and queer communities, and survivors of abuse.
Practice description
As a Person-Centred psychotherapist and counsellor, I believe that you are the expert of your experience, I accept you for who you are and welcome whatever you bring to therapy. I offer a range of options for therapeutic sessions, weekly, fortnightly, Single Session, telephone, online (video, instant messaging, email) and face to face ‘Walk and Talk’ on the South Downs.
My clients have many differing intersections, with a variety of lived experiences, choosing to work together long or short term. I have a background of 20+ years experience supporting and advocating for clients navigating systems of oppression, abuse and trauma. This includes disability rights and health advocacy, specialist queer services like Galop and London Friend, hate crime and gender-based violence advocacy support.
I have extensive experience working with gender, sexual and relationship diversity, coming out later in life, later in life neurodivergent diagnosis understanding, supporting therapeutic clients who are trans+, queer, neurodivergent, kinksters, poly and ethically non-monogamous.
Please get in touch with any questions 🙂
Client Testimonials:
“It's rare you will find a guy like AJ. When I first reached out to him I felt as if my life was going in a very negative direction. For the first time in a long time I am very excited to start the next step of my life. I highly recommend AJ to anyone struggling or facing difficulties.”
“AJ has helped me so much over the last years. Before AJ I had had several difficult transphobic experiences in counselling. I know what a challenge it is finding someone who can professionally hold non-judgemental space while also bringing care to the work.”
“AJ is an excellent counsellor and a caring listener. I've never once felt judged during a session and I've had the rare experience of feeling free to express myself. I will always be grateful for AJ’s work and care - thank you!”
