About me and my therapy practice
Sometimes, what we need is not another person inviting us to think differently or create an action plan, but someone who is genuinely willing to be with us in what is happening — to listen carefully, stay curious, and help us make sense of it together.
I have been accompanying people through difficult experiences, relationships and personal change for over 10 years through my work in Nonviolent Communication (NVC). This has included one-to-one work, conflict facilitation, mediation, group facilitation and training. I now bring that experience together with my professional counselling training and practice.
I offer counselling as a space to explore your experience with curiosity, including the things that may be difficult to understand, express or share with other people.
We might explore:
- what you are feeling and needing
- patterns that keep repeating
- past experiences that have an influence on the present
- what happens in your relationships
- things you find difficult to put into words
- where you feel torn, stuck or unsure
- what you want going forward, even when you don't yet know
I won't expect you to have clear answers. Sometimes, staying with uncertainty allows new understanding to form that wasn't accessible before.
My foundation is person-centred counselling. I also draw on Nonviolent Communication, Focusing, somatic awareness and relational approaches, depending on what is useful to you.
I am particularly interested in how we stay in contact with ourselves and others when things become difficult — especially around intimacy, vulnerability, conflict, boundaries and the tension between caring for ourselves and caring for other people.
I aim to bring attention and honesty to our work together. You don't need to perform, explain yourself perfectly or arrive with a plan. You can bring what is actually there.
Practice description
In our sessions, we slow things down and pay attention to what is happening for you - including thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and things that may be difficult to put into words.
We might:
- notice what is happening in your body
- stay with an experience for a little longer
- explore something you haven't been able to articulate
- notice patterns as they emerge
- take a break or find ways to feel more grounded when things become intense
I won't assume that I know what your experience means. We can be curious about it together, and you can decide what feels useful to explore.
I am comfortable working with strong emotions, tension and complexity, including experiences of trauma. We can work at a pace that feels manageable, allowing difficult experiences to be explored without becoming overwhelming.
My first session
Before your first session, I offer a free 20-minute introductory call. This gives us a chance to:
- talk briefly about what brings you to counselling
- answer any questions you have
- see whether working together feels like a good fit
You don't need to arrive with a clear explanation or a particular goal. We can take some time to discover what feels important.
There is no formal assessment process, and you can share as much or as little as feels comfortable. We can also talk about how I work and what you might hope to get from counselling.
The introductory call is an opportunity to begin getting to know each other and experience what it is like to work with me.
