About me and my therapy practice

Welcome,

I am an Internal Family Systems (IFS) institute trained, trauma informed integrative counsellor. With 8 years experience in mental health services, providing group therapy, gender support, crisis help and personal therapy.

I work in a way which doesn't individualise any struggles you may be feeling, as a problem with you. Instead I see how these feelings are coming from a part of you which is trying to help in the only ways they know how.

The integrative manner of my work draws upon multiple therapeutic techniques.

With deep care and collaboration we will find a method that resonates with you personally.

You won't be given a standardised practise that treats you the same as everyone else. Instead your own personal story will be given the honour it deserves and together we will find what is helpful.

My work has a foundation of deep listening, in a space which is without judgement, sees you as a person with the capacity to change, in the way you choose, and is led by your needs.

Together we will explore what meaning means to you. How your way of seeing your life has protected you, and give you the courage and confidence to see how you can make new meaning in your life.

I work in a trauma informed way. This means I won't ask what's the matter with you, instead we will gently and at a pace right for you ask, what has happened to you. How has the meaning you've made from this impacted your life and how can it change.

I work with both body and mind. Somatically we will gently explore what messages your body has stored and slowly move towards safety, even if safety has felt unsafe for you.

I also offer eco therapy in woodland settings. Bringing in a deeper sense of connection to the world, whether that be other humans, plants or animals.

I recognise how hard it can feel to trust and the responsibility that comes from entering relationship. I don't take this responsibility lightly and am here to be alongside you whatever is happening.

You are welcome here.

Practice description

Relationship is at the heart of my practise, asking how have relationships formed us, whether that be with care givers, partners, or the wider cultures we live within.

I work within the BACP ethical framework whilst also utilising ethical frameworks from those with lived experience of being marginalised.

I draw upon anti-oppressive philosophy to explore how the stories told to us have impacted how we see our selves, and how we relate to others. This could be around race, gender, class or any other dominant ideas that have placed you in a "less worthy" position.

Your system is honoured in this space, the wisdom parts of you hold, and how they've worked so hard at keeping you safe. You won't be shamed or blamed if those strategies aren't working anymore, together we will see the why these strategies used to work and ways we can update them to the here and now.

We will regularly assess how our therapeutic relationship is progressing, changing what doesn't work and increasing what does.

I will offer reflections and practices that can be worked on between sessions and I am here to be alongside you as you reflect.

You are the expert of your life in this space and I am a grateful visitor. I am here to learn what it's like to have been you and build a coalition with you for the changes you want.

You won't be spoken down to or made to feel like you're "wrong". We will build a space that is safe enough to experiment in, to see what it's like to move beyond patterns that made sense in the past and are still impacting you now.

The trust of this space isn't taken for granted, if you require services outside of my scope I will bring honesty and accountability to find ways forward that are right for you, even if that isn't something I provide.

My practice understands gender, sexuality and relationship diversity and will not impose a "right" way of being onto you.

My practice is here to support you in your journey and I am honoured and privileged to be alongside you through this.
