About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I'm Alice. I'm a registered psychotherapist and counsellor with a straightforward, thoughtful approach that can help you begin to find a way through the difficulties that are keeping you stuck. I hold an MSc and an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy, reflecting my advanced academic study and specialist training. I draw on this knowledge and my experience of working with a wide range of issues and concerns to support you to explore not only the difficulties you're experiencing, but also the underlying patterns that may be contributing to them.
I know from personal experience that taking the first step into therapy can feel daunting, especially if you’re used to coping on your own. You might be functioning on the outside, but inside you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck in patterns that are getting you down. If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone and you don’t have to carry it by yourself. Many of the people I work with come to therapy feeling anxious, low, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves or others. You may have an idea of what feels wrong, but feel unsure how to move forward, or whether change is possible.
I hold a welcoming, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly with me about the things you might normally minimise or avoid talking or thinking about altogether. Feeling unsure at the beginning is completely normal. Early sessions are about building trust and gently exploring what you’d like support with.
If you’re wondering whether therapy could help, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
Practice description
As an integrative therapist, I benefit from the flexibility of drawing upon a range of therapeutic approaches to tailor my work to each individual.
I offer both open-ended, exploratory psychotherapy and more focused, practical work, depending on your needs and what you're hoping to get from therapy. Open-ended therapy offers the space to explore your experiences, develop a deeper understanding of yourself and build greater self-acceptance, creating the potential for lasting change in how you experience and approach life. If you're looking for more focused support, we can work together on a particular issue, helping you manage current difficulties by drawing on your existing strengths and resources in new ways.
You may already have a sense of what kind of therapy would suit you, or you may be unsure where to start. Either way, I'm happy to talk through the options with you so we can explore what might be the best fit for your needs.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place at the same time each week, helping to provide continuity and maintain momentum in our work together. I also offer a limited number of fortnightly appointments where we agree that this would be a suitable alternative. We will review our work together periodically to ensure it continues to meet your needs and remains focused on what you hope to achieve.
I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework and engage in regular supervision and ongoing professional development.
My first session
When you get in touch, one of the friendly advisors at Tuudae, the clinical service where I work, will arrange an initial phone call with you. The team manages my enquiries while I'm with clients or away from the office. During this call, they'll ask a few brief questions to get a sense of what you're looking for support with and whether I may be able to help. You'll also have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have. I understand that you may prefer to speak with me personally before deciding whether to book a session, so I'm always happy to arrange a brief phone call or online meeting to give you the opportunity to do so.
Our first session is an opportunity to explore what has brought you to therapy, what you hope to gain from it, and how we might work together. It is also a chance for you to get a sense of how I work and whether I feel like the right fit for you. A strong therapeutic relationship is central to effective therapy, and it is important that you feel comfortable and able to speak openly.
I will aim to develop an understanding of your current circumstances and past experiences by asking about your background, relationships and any previous experience of therapy. We will work at your pace, and you can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.
Towards the end of the session, we can reflect on whether working together feels right for you and whether I am well placed to support you. If I feel that another form of support or a different therapist might better meet your needs, I will discuss this with you and, where possible, help you explore alternative options.
