About me and my therapy practice
Hi, my name is Reuben and I'm a Person-Centred Therapist. My way of working focuses on developing a safe and effective therapeutic relationship. My aim is to relate to you as closely as possible, to understand what it’s like to be you without judgement, and to be authentic with you even when it’s uncomfortable.
I believe it’s important for clients to choose what explore and take the lead in therapy. Whilst listening I'll highlight feelings and themes that emerge from your lead, occasionally asking questions to make sure I have understood you thoroughly. A sense of trust in our work is essential, and as our relationship becomes stronger we can explore your experiences in detail, to help you gain closure.
My client work has allowed me to work with people dealing with depression, abuse, grief, neurodivergent-identity and domestic abuse amongst other difficulties. A fundamental aspect of my way of working stems from my experience of being a client. I have accessed therapy throughout my childhood, adolescence and early adulthood, and as such have an enormous respect for the courage it takes to come to therapy and explore the painful aspects of our lives.
Prior to becoming a counsellor I spent time working in psychiatric hospitals, halfway houses, and domestic abuse services alongside the GMP.
Practice description
I work primarily online and over the phone, with limited capacity for in person work, via home visits.
When working remotely, I use teams or zoom, with noise cancelling headphones to ensure confidentiality. Working in this way allows me to offer a greater degree of flexibility to clients, helping schedule appointments around their busy life commitments.
To discuss working in person via home visits I would charge a small additional fee to cover the cost of travel, which can be discussed prior to our first session.
I work with a sliding scale and offer concessions for people who are on benefits, key workers, students and care leavers. I want to make therapy as accessible as possible and we can discuss an appropriate fee for your situation prior to working together.
My first session
I offer a free, 20 minute introductory session, where we can discuss your reasons for attending therapy. This gives us a chance to discuss what you feel needs to be addressed in your life, and whether you feel comfortable working with me. Equally it allows us to consider any additional needs you may have that we can incorporate into the way we work together. What I can help with
