About me and my therapy practice

Therapy is an opportunity to unpack and explore your experiences, thoughts, feelings and relationships, in a space that is warm, confidential, and non-judgmental. It’s a conversation that you cannot have elsewhere. With gentleness, intelligence and intention, we will examine the difficulties that you are having with living. We will bring your history, patterns of being and ways of relating into your full awareness. From that place of awareness arises the possibility of change – of living and relating to yourself and others differently.

My intention is to walk with you in that process of becoming, of removing the barriers to a fuller expression of your being – in yourself, and in your relationships with others.

Before qualifying as a therapist, I worked as an actress, and then for many years as a lawyer in the public sector. During that time, I led legal teams in the Cabinet Office, in the Department for Education and in the Equality and Human Rights Commission. I am also the mother of two (almost) grown-up children.

Practice description

I am a humanistic psychotherapist and counsellor. I work within an integrative framework, which means that I incorporate various therapeutic modalities into my work, depending on what best suits you and your needs.

At its heart, therapy is a conversation. Most of our work together will therefore consist of us talking. However, we will also work somatically (with the body), and we may use creative techniques like visualization or drawing. I will listen both to your words and to what is unsaid, to what is expressed in your body and exists in the space between us. I will ask questions to help you to reflect on and process what you bring.

My role is not to diagnose or interpret you. But together we will explore the experiences and contexts - familial, cultural, physical and social - that have formed you. We will examine your ways of being and relating in the present moment, with particular attention to the 'difficulties in living' that you are currently experiencing. Through these deep explorations, we will uncover insights that form the basis for meaningful change.

My first session

I offer a free 15-20 minute introductory call in which we can discuss what is bringing you to therapy, and I can tell you a bit more about the way that I work. You can then decide whether or not you would like to book a session.

Our first face-to-face session will have a slightly different rhythm from subsequent ones, in that I will have some specific questions to ask you, to help us begin. It’s also an opportunity for you to let me know what you want from our work together, and to ask any questions that you may have.
