About me and my therapy practice

Every child and young person deserves a safe space to be heard, understood and supported.

I am a warm, friendly and compassionate integrative and person-centred counsellor working with children and young people (8-24). I offer a calm, caring and confidential space where your child can feel safe to be themselves, free from judgement, and gently supported to explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences.

I understand how important it is for parents to find the right support. Building a trusting relationship is at the heart of my work, creating a space where children and young people feel seen, heard and valued. I believe that every child’s feelings matter, and that every voice deserves to be heard. I work at a pace that feels right for each individual, helping them find their voice, one gentle step at a time.

I have experience supporting children and young people in both primary school and online settings with a range of difficulties, including anxiety, low self-esteem, low mood, depression, emotional regulation, anger and family-related challenges. Using an integrative approach, I tailor each session to suit your child’s unique needs, personality and stage of development, supporting young minds to grow in confidence, resilience and self-belief.

My approach is grounded in building a trusting therapeutic relationship, where each young person feels heard, valued and supported in their emotional wellbeing.

My integrative approach allows me to draw on a range of therapeutic methods, including person-centred and relational counselling, creative approaches such as art, storytelling and sand tray work, play-based therapy for younger children, as well as talking therapy, reflective practices, and support with emotional regulation and coping strategies.

My aim is to provide a supportive environment where children and young people can better understand themselves, build resilience, and develop the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges.

Practice description

I provide integrative and person-centred counselling for children and young people. Sessions offer a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to support emotional wellbeing.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and therefore, I adhere to their ethical framework. This includes a commitment to working within professional competence, maintaining appropriate boundaries, engaging in regular clinical supervision and acting in the best interests of the child or young person.

Counselling may include a range of therapeutic approaches, tailored to the age, needs, and preferences of the young person, including but not limited to: Person-centred and relational counselling, creative therapy methods (e.g. art, drawing, storytelling, sand tray, therapeutic games), play-based therapy approaches (particularly for younger children), talking therapy, reflective work, emotional regulation and coping strategies.

I particularly enjoy working creatively, as this can help children and young people express feelings that are difficult to put into words. Sessions may include drawing, storytelling, sand tray and therapeutic play, alongside talking therapy, reflection and practical strategies to support emotional regulation and coping. My aim is to nurture emotional wellbeing in a safe and understanding space where your child can feel comfortable exploring their inner world.

Parents and carers often describe me as approachable, kind and down-to-earth. I strive to offer a gentle, supportive environment where your child can truly be themselves, feel understood, and begin to make positive changes at their own pace.

My hope is that every child I work with leaves sessions feeling more confident, supported and better equipped to navigate life’s challenges.

My first session

The first session is a gentle and important step in helping your child feel safe, comfortable and understood.

To begin with, I usually spend some time with you as the parent or carer (either together with your child or separately, depending on what feels most appropriate). This is an opportunity for you to share any concerns, ask questions, and let me know what has been going on for your child. It also allows me to explain how counselling works, including confidentiality and how I keep your child safe.

With your child, the focus of the first session is on building trust and helping them feel at ease. There is no pressure for them to talk about anything they are not ready to share. For younger children, this may look like gentle play, drawing or creative activities. For older children and young people, it may be a relaxed conversation, getting to know each other at their pace.

I will take time to explain who I am, what counselling is, and reassure them that this is their space where they can talk, play or express themselves in a way that feels right for them. Establishing a sense of safety and connection is always the priority in the first session.

By the end of the session, we will have begun to build a trusting relationship, and I will have a clearer understanding of how best to support your child. I will also discuss next steps with you, while respecting your child’s privacy.

My aim is for both you and your child to leave the first session feeling reassured, supported, and comfortable about moving forward.
