About me and my therapy practice
I work with clients to break down and rewrite the stories we tell ourselves about who we are, the relationships we are in, the way our environment impacts us, and how our past experiences have shaped us.
Considering Therapy?
Life is complicated, and part of being human is contending with an array of emotions, challenges and relationships, which often become unbalanced. It can be difficult to navigate these ‘bumps in the road’ and we may feel overwhelmed and stuck. For many of us, we are struggling with past traumas or present conflicts, and often both, so finding a way forward can seem incomprehensible. I understand how despair feels, and I also know that the possibility of change is within us all. I am committed to providing a collaborative space so clients can safely explore their thoughts, feelings and interactions and I practice an integrative approach that facilitates real transformation.
How can I help?
I have experience in anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, internal storytelling, neurodiversity masking, primal wounds healing, and disordered eating.
About me
I am a passionate humanist and I have been fascinated by storytelling throughout my life.
Having worked in communications within the non-profit sector I have been able to explore how stories influence behaviours around the world.
I was drawn to qualify as a counselling and psychotherapy professional after experiencing the healing power of talking therapy myself.
We are so often a slave to our internal narrator, always convinced that this inner script is our absolute truth and it can be hard to break free from the stories we tell ourselves.
Practice description
The therapeutic process
The process of therapy is a journey we will undertake together, working in collaboration to explore your feelings and experiences so we can reimagine the narratives that hold you back.
Collaborate
I practice a humanistic approach to therapy which prioritises understanding you as an individual and your uniqueness, what drives your emotions and behaviours, and the way you see and interpret the world and those around you. This approach respects you, the client, as the expert in your own life, and that you possess your own unique perspectives. Therefore, collaboration is at the centre of the counselling, as we work together to help you adapt, develop, change, and thrive.
Explore
I do not hold onto one singular style of counselling and instead adopt an integrative methodology which means I adapt my approach to cater to you as the person you are now and what you need to thrive. Therapy should not be a one-size fits all, and through an exploration of your experiences, feelings and deep thoughts we can create the right approach for your unique process. This is made possible by a trusting, honest and inclusive therapeutic alliance.
Transform
I believe that the key to therapeutic transformation is in the relationship between client and counsellor. The start of the therapy journey is about building this relationship through acceptance, empathy and transparency. As your therapist I am with you as you are right now, and all the skills and knowledge that I possess are there for your growth throughout our work together. While transformation is not always linear, or without challenges, our alliance will always be driven by your needs.
My first session
What to expect
Now that you have made the brave decision to explore your thoughts, feelings and life experiences we will start the therapeutic journey with an initial assessment.
This session will be 30 minutes (£25) and provides you with a safe space to share a little about your current and past circumstances, any emotions you are struggling with and what change you are looking for.
This is also an opportunity for you to ask me any questions and decide if you want us to work together. If you do, we will have a set day and time each week for a 50 minute session.
