About me and my therapy practice
Hello,
I am a qualified psychotherapist with an MSc in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Counselling.
I offer a warm, compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can feel safe to talk openly. I understand that this can feel like a big step when you may have been coping on your own. My aim is to help you feel heard, understood and supported at your own pace. I will provide regular opportunities for you to reflect on your progress and the amount of sessions that you feel will be helpful for you.
It may be enough for you to talk and be listened to, or you may feel some techniques would help in moving forwards. I will be guided by what feels right for you.
I work in person, online and by phone. For those who feel reassured by having therapy in a medical environment, I have access to rooms in 3 GP surgeries, whereas if you have immunity concerns I can see you in the Wellbeing centre which is more private.
All our discussions will be confidential with the overview of my supervisor.
Starting the conversation together may set you on the path to improving your situation.
Practice description
I work in an integrative way, drawing on both counselling skills and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques. This allows me to tailor therapy to suit you as an individual. This may be by gently exploring past patterns of behaviour that are impacting in the present and having a space to talk about past and current events.
My knowledge of CBT techniques may be helpful to work on changes for the future. Our work will be led by what you feel able to manage at this time at a pace that suits you. We will reflect on how therapy is progressing at regular intervals to make sure you are feeling supported.
I have a wide experience of working with depression, anxieties, low mood, stress, low self-esteem, phobias, trauma and loss. In particular my voluntary work with Cruse Bereavement Support is a person-centred approach understanding the fluctuations involved in processing loss whether of a person, a pet or of future expectations caused by change.
My practice is evidence-based where I have a genuine curiousity to continue learning. Previously, I worked as a Learning Support Tutor which informs my knowledge of neurodiversity and the importance of adapting to each individual's way of working to build a strong and meaningful therapeutic alliance.
Some examples of how we might work together:
Working with depression: Helping you to re-engage in activities and relationships.
Working with anxieties: Understanding the causes through psychoeducation and working with evidence based techniques to lessen fears.
Working with bereavement: Talking through the event, finding ways to process grief and to move forwards with positive memories.
Working with trauma: Using grounding techniques to manage heightened emotions and flashbacks.
Working with phobias: Gradually building tolerance to stressful situations, anticipating what you fear will happen and reviewing what actually happens in your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.
I will always work at your pace with what you feel comfortable with.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation by phone or online where you can begin to explore how therapy will support you and whether we feel we can work together. We will discuss confidentiality and what we can both expect from working together.
If you decide to proceed we will find a mutually convenient day and time for our appointments.
Our first session will be where we begin to explore what has brought you to therapy and possible goals you may have. It will also be an opportunity for you to find out more about how I work and the process of therapy.
