About me and my therapy practice
My name is Kirsten, and I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. I work with adults 18+ and am based in Motherwell and Stepps.
If you find yourself here, perhaps you feel curious, or ready, to start therapy. I hope to have provided all the information you may need to make an informed decision; please do get in touch with me if you have any further questions.
I believe that therapy should be wholly focused on you and your needs. My mission with this business is to provide a space where you truly feel safe, and to explore how you can make enduring change in your life. I offer flexibility both in scheduling and with the application of techniques to provide a bespoke therapeutic experience.
I have been described as warm, calming, and supportive. The relationship between you and I is what is most important - I might have the qualifications, but you are the expert on you!
My journey towards this career started over a decade ago, studying Psychology as part of my Social Sciences degree. I went on to complete the HNC COSCA Counselling Skills course at the University of Aberdeen, and then my Postgraduate Diploma in CBT and Groupwork with ACT Counselling Services. I have volunteered with Samaritans and Rape Crisis in Aberdeen, as well as student placements with Lanarkshire Association of Mental Health and the Violence Reduction Unit (Police Scotland). I worked as a Mental Health Support Worker and within a Crisis service for adults who have complex and enduring mental health issues, and have years of experience working with many different people, from all different walks of life, with all sorts of unique experiences.
I am a registered member of the BACP and adhere to their code of ethics and principles. I attend regular supervision which allows me to reflect on my practice, as well as attending CPD (Continuous Professional Development) events to ensure my knowledge and skills are relevant and current. I am fully insured to conduct work as a qualified therapist.
Practice description
I aim to provide an holistic therapeutic experience based on your goals and needs. I am trained in multiple evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). By integrating multiple approaches, I can offer a bespoke therapeutic experience built with safety and support in mind.
I understand that it can be overwhelming to find a therapist that feels like the right fit for you!
Whether this is your first time exploring therapy, or you have tried before, I offer a free, no obligation call that takes 15 minutes so you can get a sense of who I am, and whether you would feel comfortable with me.
I am open to hearing your questions and concerns, and want to make sure that you find the right support.
My first session
I understand that you may be nervous for your first session of therapy. I tend not to focus on assessments, unless you have specifically requested one based on a diagnosis/non-diagnosed symptoms.
The first session is mainly about us getting to know one another, discussing your hopes and goals for therapy, and building a foundation for the work that we will do together.
I aim to provide education and understanding around mental health, as well as supporting you to develop greater self-awareness, improved self esteem, and resilience.
