About me and my therapy practice

Working with clients in Central London, Folkestone and online, my primary aim is to create a warm, supportive and professional relationship where you will feel safe and comfortable.

As an integrative therapist I draw on a blend of approaches that best suit the needs of each individual client. My training and experience draws on a variety of therapeutic traditions (e.g. Person-centred, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Transactional Analysis (TA), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Existential etc) depending on your needs.

I use psychoeducation to help clients learn about themselves and the therapeutic approaches being used. To empower clients and enable them to achieve the changes they seek.

With many years working with the professions and in business, I am also a qualified and experienced coach.

Practice description

Clients have a variety of challenges: some seek help managing difficult emotions, some want to share troubling feelings and thoughts, some face a particular challenge (such as stress at work, relationship problems, feeling stuck, a major change, a physical illness or disability, sexual and cultural identities etc) and some simply want to feel better.

Some clients know what they are grappling with: rumination, stress, a harsh inner critic, anxiety, depression, trauma or Complex PTSD. Others need guidance to explore the underlying cause of their distress so we can work together on a solution.

Clients come from all walks of life (and many cultures) including: the professions (lawyers, accountants, surveyors), business and finance, technology, not-for-profit and the creative sector (including performing arts). Some are students and some have retired.

My first session

Usually, we will have had a short telephone or online call before the first session - to check that the client feels comfortable talking to me and to ensure that I have the necessary training and skills to help.

The first session has a slight discount to the regular fee. And may take a little longer than the usual 50 minutes.

I run gently through an series of questions - partly to comply with professional and ethical regulations but mostly to gain  insight into the client. To hear their views in their own words on what is happening and what they want to achieve. And to start to establish the professional relationship.

We also briefly talk through the working agreement (which is sent in advance) to ensure the client understands and is comfortable with the arrangements. And to determine whether there is anything particular they would or would not want to discuss or do in therapy sessions.

And, of course, clients are encouraged to ask any questions about me as their therapist or about their therapy.

During the first session, we might also talk about whether there are any suitable assessments that may inform our work. And how the client feels about completing such assessments.
