About me and my therapy practice
Hello :) My name is Cara and I'm an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist.
I am a huge believer that therapy should go beyond healing and towards empowerment! I work with people to reclaim themselves whilst experiencing distress, trauma or identity concerns. This might be people who:
• feel stuck in past relationships or experiences
• lost part of themselves through trauma
• going through major life transitions
• in emotional distress, such as depression or anxiety
• questioning purpose, meaning and spiritual values
If this resonates with you, we can work together to untangle difficult thoughts and feelings, build a sense of inner safety, and create space for meaningful self-discovery and a clearer path forward.
Practice description
I'm an integrative therapist, meaning that we can play around with different therapeutic approaches depending on your needs and preferences.
I work solely online so that you can do session from the comfort of your own space (comfy clothes/blankets encouraged)
Our work would be grounded in a person-centred approach. This means that an empathetic, non-judgmental and compassionate therapeutic relationship is central to our sessions. Through this relationship, you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace... without needing to jump in the deep end!
From this foundation, we could integrate ideas from relational, existential and trauma-informed approaches. We might explore your relational patterns, heal from past experiences and create a deeper self-understanding.
My aim is to support you through deep healing, reclaiming your sense of self and move towards a more authentic and empowered way of living.
About me!
I am dual-registered with BACP and NCPS, meaning I practice ethically. I also hold a MSc Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy and BSc Psychology
I have five years' experience in various mental health settings, including crisis services, domestic/sexual abuse services and with young people. I have been lucky enough to support people experiencing a range of distress, such as depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, identity issues and past trauma. I found my passion when helping individuals navigate questions around identity/meaning/purpose. This includes:
• Women reclaim themselves after experiencing abuse
• LGBT+ and neurodiverse clients who have had to 'hide' parts of themselves
• Individuals who experienced child abuse and neglect
• Individuals through life transitions, such as breakups, career changes, menopause, parenthood, education, relocation ect.
Outside of therapy, I am cuddling with my big ginger cat, got Harry Styles on repeat and working on my love/hate relationship with cold water swimming...
My first session
Meeting someone new and starting the therapy process can be unsettling... so we start slowly.
The first step is to reach out and book in a free initial call. This gives us a chance to get to know each other and see if we're a good fit for your therapeutic journey. Here, you can ask questions about how therapy works, your situation and your needs/preferences. There is no obligation to commit to working together - it is purely for you to get a feel of what our work could look like
After this, our first session gives us the chance to get to know each other a little better and start planning our journey. I'd like to learn a bit more about why you reached out for therapy and what your life looks like. We would work together to see what changes you would like to see and get on our path to healing, self-development and empowerment
... and we grow from there
The Boring But Important Parts:
I would send you a copy of a counselling agreement which provides info about confidentiality, cancellations and payment so that you are fully informed of what therapy involves.
I also offer concessionary rates for trainee/student counsellors looking for personal therapy (£30/session)
Each session will last 50 minutes each. I encourage weekly sessions as this helps facilitate effective change... but I am happy to offer sessions however frequently you need for however long you need :)
If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, please reach out to caradavidsonpsychotherapy@gmail.com
