About me and my therapy practice
I am a person-centred counsellor based in Lancaster, and also work at Trinity Hospice in Blackpool as a bereavement counsellor. As a person-centred counsellor, I place you at the heart of our work. I provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at a pace that feels right for you.
I won’t guide or direct your process; instead, I will follow wherever you need to go. With empathy and gentle reflection, I will hold the space as you approach difficult or uncertain areas, including those that may feel overwhelming or frightening to face.
There may be pauses and moments of silence as we sit with whatever arises—this is a natural and valuable part of the process, and you are always welcome to take the time you need.
I hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling from the University of Cumbria, a course recognised by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), of which I am a registered member.
Practice description
People come to counselling for many different reasons. The need often arises from feeling stuck or overwhelmed.
You may be feeling anxious or depressed and unsure how to move forward. You may be overwhelmed by grief or loss, and struggling to find your way through the fog. You might be finding relationships difficult — with family, friends, or a partner — or going through a significant life transition such as a new job, an empty nest, or the end of a relationship.
These experiences can feel paralysing and can affect your ability to function or feel like yourself. Counselling offers a gentle, supportive space to explore what is happening for you and to begin making sense of it.
Counselling is not a quick fix, and at times it may feel as though things become more difficult before they start to ease. While some of the work happens within our sessions, much of the process unfolds quietly between sessions. With patience, compassion, and commitment, the fog or pain can begin to lift. I would be honoured to accompany you on that journey.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a bereavement counsellor at Trinity Hospice in Blackpool. As well as grief and loss, I have experience of working with a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. I often work with clients who have lost their way and their sense of self, and need some gentle support in rebuilding their confidence. My interest in grief and loss is not purely professional but also personal, as I have myself experienced several very close losses. I see it as a privilege to accompany bereaved family members on their journey.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked as a French teacher in both primary and secondary education. I am bilingual and bicultural in English and French, so can offer counselling sessions in French if that feels more comfortable for you.
My first session
One of the most important aspects of the therapeutic process is the relationship between counsellor and client. For this reason, I offer a free 20-minute introductory session, either by phone or online, with no obligation. This gives us the opportunity to get to know one another, for you to share what you are looking for, and to explore whether we feel comfortable working together.
I offer hour-long sessions on a weekly basis. These sessions are open-ended, meaning you can choose how long you would like to continue for. You are free to bring your sessions to an end whenever you feel ready.
If you feel this approach may be right for you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch using the contact form above. I look forward to hearing from you.
