About me and my therapy practice
My journey into working as a counsellor began after I first experienced counselling as a client.
I realised how valuable counselling can be, allowing you to be seen, heard, and accepted as you are. I also realised that, in my various previous working roles in the charity and education sectors, I had been developing the skills to facilitate this for some time.
I undertook Level 2 and 3 training with York Learning, and then started my postgraduate diploma in Humanistic Counselling at York St John University, gaining my qualification in March 2026.
I have been working with clients during, and since my training, offering counselling from January 2024. In this time I have worked with adults from all walks of life, experiencing a wide range of issues.
Practice description
I believe you are the ultimate expert on your own life. My role isn’t to lead the way, but to walk alongside you as we navigate the terrain of your experiences together. I provide a space where you can feel truly held and supported - always with a steady hand, a caring heart, and a gentle sense of humour. I will listen, ask questions, and gently challenge when appropriate.
While my approach is broadly person-centred, it is also integrative - I adopt elements of other counselling approaches when appropriate, and will adapt my approach to your needs and our developing relationship.
My first session
Our first interaction will be a free 20 minute consultation - typically over the phone or a video call.
In this call we'll both introduce ourselves, I'll tell you about how I work, and there will be space for us to share anything important and ask any questions - there's no such thing as a silly question!
