About me and my therapy practice
Hi, I’m Laura and I offer integrative counselling and psychotherapy. I use a mix of Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis (TA), and Gestalt. I may bring in some creative elements to our work together if that feels relevant and helpful to you. The main feature of our work will be that the pace is your own, and I will provide a safe space and a listening, empathic, non-judgemental space to work with you. I will walk alongside you through the challenges you bring to therapy and support you to make the changes you wish to make.
I have worked with clients experiencing, e.g., anxiety, panic attacks, health anxiety, social anxiety, depression, problematic drinking, trauma, family and relationship issues, loss of a sense of self, questioning neurodivergence, and challenges arising from attachment difficulties.
I work with both children and adults. As well as being a therapist, I am also a yoga and teen yoga teacher and former school teacher with many years' experience working with neurodivergent children and young people. I work with both children and adults.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about how we might work together.
I look forward to hearing from you and to working with you.
Practice description
I offer weekly sessions of one hour either in person in Largs or online, either short (e.g. 6 or 7 weeks) or long-term (months or longer).
My work with clients is open-ended and we will complete a regular review together to assess what is working well and what changes we might wish to make in how we work together. This is also an opportunity to review aims and goals and to consider whether further sessions would be helpful.
As mentioned above I work in an integrative way, which means I will draw on different counselling and psychotherapy modalities depending on what you bring to therapy. The key is to initially establish our therapeutic relationship. Anything I offer as a different way of working is an option and your choice as a client as to whether or not a particular way of working feels helpful.
My first session
I offer a free, initial 30 minute call or zoom meeting for us both to assess if we feel we can work together.
Thereafter my first session with you will be an assessment. This is your chance to share what feels helpful e.g. of your background, medical history and what has brought you to therapy. I will ask questions about previous experience of therapy and you will have an opportunity to ask questions about how we will work together, this can be on the initial call, in the the first and/or subsequent sessions. The more you feel able to share as sessions progress, they more I will be able to walk alongside you and understand the challenges you are facing.
