About me and my therapy practice
People come to counselling carrying all sorts of things - anxiety that won't settle, relationships that feel stuck, a vague but persistent sense that something needs to change. My job isn't to have the answers. It's to help you find your own.
My approach is integrative, which means I draw on a range of frameworks - person-centred therapy, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, attachment theory, and trauma-informed ways of working, not as a pick-and-mix, but as a coherent set of lenses I bring to each person depending on what they actually need.
In practice, that looks like a collaborative, unhurried process. I pay close attention not just to what you say, but to how you say it, the patterns, what feels stuck, the moments of unexpected clarity. We work at a pace that feels right for you.
Before training as a counsellor, I spent over thirty years in pastoral support and corporate leadership. That background shapes how I work: I understand the pressures of work and responsibility, and what it means to keep holding things together when life feels like it's pulling apart.
I hold an FdSc in Counselling from the University of Worcester and am a Registered Member of BACP (MBACP, no. 419468).
Practice description
I work from a private, comfortable room in my home in Ledbury, Herefordshire. It's a quiet, unhurried setting, easy to reach from the town centre and surrounding villages with on-site parking.
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly, though we'll discuss whatever rhythm makes most sense for you. I work with adults on either a short-term or longer-term basis, depending on what you're bringing and what you're hoping for.
My fee is £50 per session. I ask for 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a session; sessions cancelled with less notice are charged at the full rate.
I also work as a counsellor for LEAF, a local charity offering funded counselling through Ledbury Health Partnership, so if private fees are a barrier, it may be worth exploring whether that route is available to you.
Everything you share is kept confidential, within the professional and ethical framework of BACP membership, which I'm happy to explain clearly at the outset.
My first session
The first session is offered at 50% of the standard fee, so £25.
It isn't a formal assessment. It's an unhurried conversation about what's brought you to counselling, what you're hoping for, and whether working together feels like the right fit. There's no obligation to commit to anything beyond that single session.
I'll explain how I work, what confidentiality means in practice, and what the process typically involves. You'll have the chance to ask whatever you want before we decide whether to go ahead.
Most people feel some nervousness before that first conversation. That's entirely natural. The aim of this initial meeting is simply to help you feel informed and at ease — so that if you do decide to continue, you're doing so with a clear sense of what counselling with me actually involves.
