About me and my therapy practice
Hello, my name is Ann-Marie (she/her) and I am a humanistic and integrative therapeutic counsellor based in Brighton.
I work with adults who may feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, offering a supportive and respectful space to explore emotions, relationships, and life experiences. Alongside talking therapy, we may also pay attention to the body and breath, and use creative approaches where images, symbols, or simple materials can help express what feels difficult to say in words.
I work with care and sensitivity, drawing on a range of approaches, creative methods, and an understanding of how the mind and body respond to experience.
I welcome people from diverse backgrounds and experiences into my practice. I recognise that our lives are shaped not only by personal experiences, but also by the wider social and cultural contexts we live within.
I do not pretend to fully know or understand every experience, but I am committed to continually learning about how societal and cultural oppression can affect different people and communities. I hope to offer a space that feels thoughtful, respectful, and inclusive of difference.
I can work online and from hired counselling spaces. If you have any accessibility needs or requirements, we can think together about what may feel supportive and workable for you.
Practice description
As a humanistic and integrative therapeutic counsellor, I work with care and sensitivity, drawing on a range of therapeutic approaches, creative methods, and an understanding of how the mind and body respond to experience.
I believe therapy is a collaborative process built on trust, where feeling safe allows deeper exploration to take place. Within a steady therapeutic relationship, personal experiences can be shared, understood, and gently explored, opening the way for healing, growth, and wellbeing.
My first session
Our first session is a gentle starting point. It’s a space for us to begin getting to know one another and to see how it feels to sit together.
You’re welcome to share as much, or as little, as feels right about what has brought you to counselling. We can explore what you might hope for from the work and consider how we could approach it together.
Before we meet, I will ask you to complete a short form so I can gather some basic information and ensure I am working safely and appropriately. You are welcome to ask any questions about this.
There will also be time in the session for anything you would like to ask. Nothing is rushed, and we move at a pace that feels manageable for you.
