About me and my therapy practice

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, especially if you’ve never spoken to anyone before. My aim is to make it feel as straightforward and comfortable as possible.

I’m not the therapist who sits in silence waiting for you to do all the talking, and I’m not the therapist who spends the whole session analysing everything you say. I see therapy as a conversation between two people. Sometimes I’ll simply listen. Sometimes I’ll ask questions you’ve never considered. Sometimes I’ll gently challenge you if I think it might help you see things differently. Every person is different, so the way we work together should be too.

I work integratively, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches rather than following one model rigidly. More importantly though, I work with you, not with a textbook. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, relationships, self-esteem, grief, identity, life changes or simply feeling stuck, we’ll work together to understand what’s happening beneath the surface and find a way forward that feels meaningful to you.

People often worry they’ll have to know exactly what to say before coming to therapy. You don’t. Sometimes people arrive with a clear goal, and sometimes they arrive knowing only that something doesn’t feel right. Both are completely okay.

Above everything else, I believe therapy should feel human. There shouldn’t be pressure to perform, to say the “right” thing, or to be anyone other than yourself. My role isn’t to judge you or tell you how to live your life. It’s to offer a space where you can explore your thoughts and experiences honestly, at your own pace, while feeling supported, respected and understood.

Real change rarely comes from being given advice. More often, it comes from being truly heard, gaining a deeper understanding of yourself, and discovering that you already have more strength and resilience than you realised. That’s the kind of therapy I aim to offer.

Practice description

You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Some people reach out because life has thrown them an unexpected challenge. Others have been carrying something for years and have reached a point where they don’t want to carry it alone anymore. Sometimes people know exactly what’s brought them to therapy, and sometimes they just know that something doesn’t feel quite right.

Whatever your reason, you don’t need to have everything figured out before getting in touch.

I work with adults aged 18 and over, offering both online and face-to-face sessions in Chester. My approach is warm, collaborative and tailored to you as an individual. I believe that no two people are the same, so therapy shouldn’t be either.

Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, relationships, grief, identity, life changes, or simply feeling stuck, therapy can offer the opportunity to pause, make sense of your experiences, and reconnect with yourself.

My hope is that you’ll find therapy to be a place where you can speak openly, feel genuinely heard, and explore whatever is important to you, without pressure or judgement. Together, we’ll work towards helping you better understand yourself and create meaningful, lasting change.

My first session

It’s completely normal to feel nervous before your first session. Many people tell me they’ve spent weeks or even months thinking about getting in touch before they finally do.

Our first session isn’t about me analysing you or expecting you to share everything straight away. It’s an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin building a therapeutic relationship.

We’ll talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to gain from our work together, and any questions or concerns you may have. I’ll also explain how I work, confidentiality, and some of the practical aspects of therapy, so you know what to expect going forward.

There’s no pressure to tell your whole story in the first session. We go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Perhaps most importantly, your first session is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you. Finding someone you feel comfortable talking to is an important part of the therapeutic process, and it’s okay if that takes time.
