About me and my therapy practice
I am an experienced, qualified Person-Centred Therapist and registered member of the BACP, with specialist qualifications in both Person-Centred Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. I also hold a Diploma in Counselling Children and Adolescents and have undertaken further training in Rewind Therapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Trauma Therapy, and Bereavement and Loss Therapy.
My approach is warm, compassionate and down to earth. I work primarily from a person-centred approach, placing empathy, acceptance and authenticity at the heart of therapy, while drawing upon the different therapeutic approaches I am qualified and trained in to meet your individual needs.
My practice is trauma-informed, meaning that safety, trust, choice and working at your pace are especially important. You remain in control of what you choose to explore, and there is no pressure to talk about anything before you feel ready.
I have clinical experience supporting people affected by trauma and PTSD, abuse, anxiety, depression, addiction, sexual violence, bereavement and other life challenges, including working therapeutically with military veterans and their families. I also have experience within primary care, supporting a diverse range of clients with emotional and psychological needs.
I understand that every person's experience is unique, so I tailor therapy to you. Together, we can explore what matters most to you in a safe, respectful and confidential space.
Practice description
Beginning counselling can feel daunting, particularly if you have spent a long time coping alone or putting the needs of others before your own. You don't need to know exactly what to say or where to begin. We can start with whatever feels most important to you.I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can feel heard, understood and accepted. I won't tell you what you should do or assume I know what is best for you. Instead, we will work together to explore your experiences, develop greater self-understanding, and identify what may help you move forward.
As I am qualified in both Person-Centred Therapy and CBT, our work can be exploratory and client-led, more structured and practical, or draw on both approaches depending on your individual needs. Where appropriate, I can offer practical therapeutic strategies to help you understand the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, supporting lasting change.
My own lived experiences of trauma and significant life challenges have deepened my empathy and understanding of the courage it can take to seek support.
Whether you are struggling with the present, carrying experiences from the past or facing significant change, we can explore it together at a pace that feels right for you.
My first session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to meet, get to know one another, and explore what has brought you to counselling. It is also an opportunity for you to decide whether I feel like the right therapist for you.I will complete an initial assessment with you to help me understand what you are currently experiencing, alongside any relevant history. I may ask about your emotional well-being and safety, and discuss confidentiality and its limits. I will explain how I work and what to expect from our sessions, and give you time to ask questions and raise anything that might help you feel more comfortable.
If you have experienced trauma, you will not be expected to tell me the details of what happened in your first session. We will work at a pace that feels manageable for you, and you remain in control of what you choose to share.
You don't need to arrive knowing exactly what you want from counselling. We can work that out together. Most importantly, I want your first session to feel like the start of a conversation where you feel listened to, respected, and understood.
