About me and my therapy practice
I believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful psychotherapy. My aim is to offer a safe, compassionate and trusting space where you feel seen, heard and accepted as you are. Working collaboratively and at your pace, we can explore the experiences and difficulties that have brought you to therapy.
I work integratively, drawing from psychodynamic and humanistic approaches. I recognise how early experiences and the ways we adapted to them can continue to shape our relationships, emotions and sense of self. Alongside this, I hold a strong belief in our capacity for growth, healing and living more authentically.
Many experiences and feelings exist beyond conscious awareness. Through talking, reflection and creative exploration, therapy can help bring these inner experiences into awareness, creating opportunities for deeper understanding and change. As an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist, I understand that words are not always enough. Creative processes can offer another way of expressing and exploring emotions, experiences and parts of ourselves that may feel difficult to articulate verbally. No artistic skill or experience is needed.
My work is also informed by interpersonal neurobiology, recognising the close relationship between the brain, body and our connections with others. I pay attention to both emotional and embodied experience, aiming to create a calm and attuned therapeutic relationship where you may begin to feel safer, more connected and better able to navigate life’s challenges.
Practice description
As an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist, I offer a therapeutic space where talking and creative expression can work together. The arts form an important part of my practice and may include the use of visual art materials, clay, postcards, sandtray, movement, musical instruments or puppets. These resources are always available for you to use if and when it feels helpful, but there is never any expectation to be artistic or creative.
Sometimes thoughts, feelings and experiences can be difficult to put into words. Creative expression can offer another way of exploring emotions, relationships and patterns, helping to make sense of experiences that may sit outside conscious awareness. Working with images, metaphor and the creative process can bring new insight, emotional release and understanding. The process itself can also feel grounding, calming and empowering.
I work collaboratively and sensitively, adapting sessions to meet your individual needs and preferences. Some sessions may involve mainly talking, while others may include more creative exploration. We will work at a pace that feels manageable and supportive for you.
Sessions take place in a private therapy cabin in my garden. The space has been intentionally created to feel calm, welcoming and emotionally containing, offering a peaceful environment for reflection, creativity and therapeutic work.
My first session
I offer a free 15-minute introductory phone call before arranging a first appointment. This gives us an opportunity to briefly discuss what has brought you to therapy, for you to ask any questions you may have, and for us to consider whether I may be the right fit for you and your needs.
If you decide you would like to continue, we can arrange an initial session where we will meet in more depth and begin to explore what is bringing you to therapy at this time. This first session is also an opportunity for you to get a sense of how it feels to work with me and whether the space and approach feel supportive for you.
Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step, so I aim to offer a calm, welcoming and non-judgemental environment where you can move at your own pace. Together we can think about what support you are looking for and whether ongoing therapy with me feels appropriate and helpful for you.
