About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Emma, working with adults online and in person from my private therapy studio near Winchester, Hampshire.
I work with clients experiencing a range of difficulties including relationship challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, identity issues, shame, trauma, and concerns surrounding intimacy and sexuality.
Some clients come to therapy feeling stuck, disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain about themselves or their relationships. Others may have a general sense that something in their life no longer feels sustainable, even if they are not yet sure why.
My approach is rooted in person-centred counselling and informed by psychodynamic and attachment-based principles. I am particularly interested in how past experiences and relationships can continue to shape present emotions, behaviours, and ways of relating to others.
I hold a DipHE in Humanistic Counselling from the University of Portsmouth and I am also currently undertaking Masters-level training in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy with the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology.
Practice description
I understand that starting therapy can feel daunting, and I aim to create a space where you feel safe enough to speak openly and honestly.
I work relationally, paying attention to the therapeutic relationship itself and how patterns may emerge within the work we do together. I believe therapy is not about being “fixed”, but about developing a deeper understanding of yourself, your emotions, your relationships, and your needs.
Where appropriate, I may also incorporate psychoeducation and emotional regulation strategies to support clients in understanding their emotional responses and building healthier ways of coping and relating.
I offer both short-term and longer-term therapy depending on your needs, and we can regularly review the work together to ensure therapy continues to feel helpful and supportive.
My first session
I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation online, giving us an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, what you are hoping for from counselling, and whether we feel like the right fit to work together.
If we decide to continue, our first full session will include space to explore your current difficulties, any relevant background or relationship patterns, and what you would like support with moving forward. We will also go through the counselling agreement together and there will be time for you to ask any questions you may have about the process.
I understand that beginning therapy can feel anxiety-provoking, so I aim to approach first sessions gently and collaboratively, allowing you to share at a pace that feels manageable and comfortable for you.
