About me and my therapy practice

It can be difficult to reach out for support, but I will offer you a compassionate space to explore what you are struggling with, working alongside you to understand your experiences better. I will meet all your thoughts, feelings and moods with empathy, supportive curiosity, and without judgement.

As you share your experiences and feelings with me, we can work together to make connections and notice unconscious patterns playing out in your life and relationships. By uncovering these dynamics, you can gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the things you find hard to manage. Through this understanding, new choices and change may begin to feel possible.

I will listen carefully to what has happened to you in your life and how you cope with life’s challenges. I will also stay alert to what brings you joy, keeping sight of hope and possibility as we work together, even if there are times when you cannot.

I believe in the process of therapy and the value of having someone alongside you to help you explore your past and present experiences. I believe that in some of life’s hardest moments, change is occurring – something may be unlocked and released. I also know it can be difficult to be vulnerable, and to explore dark places together. I will always treat our time together with care and respect.

My training and experience

I hold an MA (with distinction) from Goldsmiths, University of London, in Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy. My training provides a deep grounding in psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, and relational theory, with a focus on self-reflexivity and socio-cultural awareness.

My clinical experience includes working within two NHS Trusts, providing weekly psychotherapy to adults and adolescents. I also volunteer at a low-fee counselling service in Norwich. I am a registered member of the BACP, working strictly to their ethical framework.

Practice description

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapist. My approach, grounded in psychoanalytic and relational theory, explores how early relationships and life experiences might have shaped your present challenges or your ability to cope.

Areas of focus

I am experienced in supporting clients with a wide range of challenges, from depression and anxiety, attachment and relational difficulties, to those who have suffered bereavement, childhood trauma, sexual abuse, or who struggle with identity.

I have a particular interest in the dynamics of relationships and attachment, and the human struggle to love. My postgraduate dissertation explored a psychoanalytic understanding of postnatal depression and ‘the madness of love’.

How We Will Work Together

My preference is working weekly, face-to-face, on an open-ended basis. I believe this allows our relationship to develop, and for understanding, reflection and change to happen at your pace, rather than within a set timeframe. I know that everyone’s circumstances are unique though, so we can discuss what you want to get out of therapy and how you would like to work when we first meet.

Next Steps

I offer a free initial 30-minute phone call for us to introduce ourselves and talk briefly about how we might work together.

Please get in touch to arrange this initial conversation. It is an opportunity to talk more about the process and to answer any questions you may have.
