Availability
I am accepting limited clients. I also offer concessionary rates based on personal circumstances.
You will be able to chat with me to decide if we can work together and only then do we contract our agreed time, rate. terms etc according to your needs.
This is entirely your choice and you can book online sessions or telephone or face to face dependant on where you are at and how you are feeling at that time.
Some people start with telephone, move to zoom and finish in person as they grow and gain Therapeutic confidence. This can be very beneficial in itself.
About me and my therapy practice
I am a qualified BACP integrative counsellor / Psychotherapist offering online counselling to adults across the UK. I am also a qualified BABCP Cognitive behavioural Psychotherapist treating OCD/ Anxiety/Depression etc and engaged in ongoing specialisms such as Trauma/ PTSD and EMDR bilateral stimulation for complex presentations.
When I blend all the theories and training such as humanistic, psychodynamic, Emotional focused therapy and cognitive behavioural approaches, EMDR bilateral simulation it allows me to adapt my work to each individual in a real and deeper way that bring authenticity to the work. This work is based on core skills gained over many years in professional business and study and research undertaken in Psychology, gaining BPS membership. (British Psychological Society).
I have experience supporting clients with Anxiety, Depression, OCD grief and loss, relationship difficulties, Attachment Issues, low self-worth, trauma, attachment-related issues and significant life transitions. Addictions such as Porn, Drugs, gambling etc. More recently I have trained in Emotional Focussed Therapy for Couples, which is a ground breaking technique Dr Sue Johnston pioneered. My EMDR training also was delivered at QUB by the MBE Dr Saleem Tareen (Consultant Psychiatrist and Clinical Director specialising in general adult psychiatry)
Practice description
But all the theory in the world doesn't capture the importance of the change counselling and psychotherapy brings to peoples lives.
The therapist is so important as we all know and I believe empathy, warmth and ease and love and caring are a massive part of this magic. This is my real skills, connecting at a level that another human is forever moved towards growth and wellbeing no matter where they are at in their lives.
I also use Mindfulness and ground techniques incorporated into my work and Bilateral Stimulation may be visual/ audio/ bodily as well as sound and imagery. People all are unique and respond to different ways and means to reach them. I include psychodynamic tools such as Jungian Cards exploring your shadow side for eg or stones or animals may be used to access very deep repressed feelings or dreamwork to uncover unconscious desires. All strategies are within the strictest of training under BACP etc.
Slowing down from our modern lives helps us to make space to reflect deeply, open up without fear. I help you transition to this space safely.
My work is governed by Professional bodies. Mine include BACP / BABCP / EMDR Europe / BPS and I engage in clinical supervision and ongoing professional development and academic training.
My first session
This can be a bit dauting but I assure you I aim to put you at ease, I am an experienced professional. So even if you are not sure what the issue is, I'll be able to help prioritise your concerns and put some of it in order so you have a starting point. We are often overwhelmed at Therapy first sessions with so much to say.
My skills is in getting my clients to relax and breathe, thus experiencing a new safe, begin to bond with me, share a laugh, maybe cry a little, that's the trust entering. Being human is messy and we are fragile creatures. When we feel safe with our therapist only then you can share authentically, or grow and change.
My role is to offer insight/ challenge etc and alternative ways of looking at problems but not until you and I trust and decide on a collaborative way forward. This means you are invested then in your therapy and will gain much more from it.
