About me and my therapy practice
I am a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor and work integratively, meaning that together, you and I can discover the type of therapy that works best for you. My main training is in Person-Centred work, which is a collaborative approach, where we work together. As a person-centred counsellor, through providing empathic understanding, honesty, acceptance and a safe space free of judgement, you as the client are encouraged to discover and explore your own capacity for personal growth and self-healing.
I work in an open and relaxed way, respecting your autonomy, and aim to build a trusting, safe and respectful therapeutic relationship, which enables you to gain an awareness of what is going on for you and why life has brought you to this point.
I can help with many difficult life concerns, such as - Depression, Anxiety, Stress, Low Self-Esteem, Redundancy/Work related Issues, Grief/Loss, Bereavement, Relationship Issues/Separation/Divorce, ADHD/ADD, OCD, Life-Transitions, Menopause, and coping with Traumatic Life Experiences/Events.
Counselling is your safe space where I will work with you, at your pace. I am not there to fix, direct or tell you what to do. Instead, I will empathically and actively listen, with curiosity, to what is and what isn’t being said. I will be fully present, allowing you to feel understood and heard, to enable you to explore underlying emotions and thoughts, which can help you to gain understanding and clarity, as well as coping strategies that may help you.
I hope to hear from you, when you feel ready.
Practice description
I am a fully qualified therapist & am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy & also an accredited registrant member with the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society, and work within their ethical guidelines.
I am fully insured, am a member of the ICO & have an enhanced DBS.
I hold a CPCAB (Counselling & Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body) Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills, a CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies and a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.
I am committed to on-going continual personal development, to enhance and add to my learning and skills.
In addition to my private practice, I also work with a Private Counselling & Psychotherapy practice in north-west Dorset.
My first session
All counselling sessions are 50 minutes and in our first session together, we will go over your assessment form, which would have been emailed to you prior to starting counselling with myself. The assessment form, provides me with more information about yourself, and gives you the opportunity to explain what is going on for you right now,, and what has brought you to seek counselling.
We will also go over the counselling agreement together & days and times of sessions going forward. The session is then yours to use the time as you wish. As a person-centred counsellor, I will be led by you and work with you at your pace.
I usually suggest a minimum of six sessions initially and then carry out regular six weekly reviews. If you as the client decide to end sessions at any point, that is your decision entirely, and I just ask you to let me know so that we can bring sessions to a safe ending.
